Well, all faces are different. Unfortunately to be truly effective you need to do a fit test. Different brands fit differently. When I has to use one routinly we found the the MSA fit my face the best.

Find a cartridge type face mask that fits you well then find the cartridges that protect against what you are doing.
Is there an Industrial safety store near you that you can go and try masks on and ask their opinion?
My lead levels are elevated, but not enough to be too much of a concern.
I discussed all of this with my Doctor.
I now wear nitrile gloves when ever I'm working out in my shop. No respirator required. I tumble all of my brass outside.
I strongly suspect that handling tumbled brass is the cause of my elevated condition, and that next year I'll test lower levels in my blood due to the gloves.
As a matter of interest to me, Federal is going to change over to a new formula of lead free primers. This should help out with the lead exposure from the use of a dry media brass tumbler. Gp
Glockfan what does LEA’s stand for ???

+1 Jeffrey, I worked at a steel wheel manufacturer for over 20 years as a submerged arc welder. None of us ever had a bad test result. We had fans but we were inside. As Jeffrey said I smelt, flux and pour outside and have had no problems.
submerged has no fumes

I am recently retired and my generation was probably the last to not really follow new guide lines for safety because we grew up differently. However, now there is a lot of proof that the guide lines make sense.
Lead blood levels seem to be the highest with those who collect range scrap and those who shot in indoor ranges. There’s a lot of lead in primers and if the indoor rage doesn’t have enough ventilation shooters can ingest lead. I do both, shoot indoors and collect range scrap.
Before I didn’t know the possible risks of lead. As a kid, like others, I kept crimp on sinkers for fishing in my mouth.
I pushed the limits collecting scrap and melted it into ingots and then cast boolits. Sometimes there was a breeze, but not always. My blood sample came out almost off the chart. My doctor said I should be in a hospital.
Lead has a half life of 25 days. That means an average body can reduce lead blood levels buy half each 25 days. I am waiting for my recent tests results.
I now use latex gloves when reloading. I have a respirator for melting range scrap and casting and a high quality particulate mask for range scrap. It’s from an indoor range and I sweep it into piles and then shovel it into buckets.
As far as the lead fumes, the filter is just charcoal. I hope it does it’s job.
This is something that is not talked about much, but is very important. How many of you have had your blood tested for lead? It’s not tested in the normal blood sample your doctors have you do each six to twelve months. You normally have to ask for it.
Well enough preaching. A word to the wise is sufficient!
your post is eye opening, thanks

When I bought my respirator, the salesman told me that when I wasn’t using it, to keep it in a Ziplock bag. Once you open the package of filters the charcoal starts reacting with whatever is in the environment. Even if you aren’t breathing through it. If you keep in sealed up in a plastic bag, the filters will last many times longer.
Also, I have a high lead level. I am sure tumbling brass can be a big factor for some, however,
I never tumble my brass. I just rinse it in citric acid. The lead is everywhere in what we do.
yes on bagging it also suck the air out b4 you seal it up
