Blue and Walnut Ruger M 77/.22

Beautiful well made rifles and it's a sin Ruger discontinued them. Those of you who own one, how accurate are they with good ammunition?

Like most of the Ruger rifles of that era barrel quality is spotty at best. Some shoot really well and some shoot really poorly.

    Thanks, that's what I feared.

I have one. The barrel was “poor” at best! I ended up having a Winchester Model 52 barrel installed and never looked back. My only regret is not having barrel and receiver threaded for a more secure fit.

    .

FWIW, my M-77/22M's been shooting "minute of squirrel head" for over 30 years now.

I bought one lightly used installed a Varquesen (spelling?) trigger and a vintage 4-12 Redfield scope. It will bench a 1/2” group at a 100 yds. With no sweat. Never played with brands of shells to try to better that. Satisfied like most of my guns it will shoot better than I can hold it. Hope one day to find a deal on one in .22Hornet.

Mine shoots almost as well as my Kimber 82 or my Winchester 52.

Only things I have done is a Volquartsen sear and floated the barrel.

I bought the 22 Mag version at the same time, it shoots better than it has a right to also.

Watched one hold it's own against Anshutz's and other high buck match rifles last night, bullseye @ 100 yards. Didn't win, but his score was respectable.

Mine shoots exactly double the group size of my 452 CZ.

A wide variety of results; my first-year production is the most accurate sporter 22 I've ever shot. I have read a number of anecdotal posts where others have had similar results with theirs.

Thanks, that's about what I expected. I lament that Ruger doesn't still make them with barrels made ''in house'', the blue steel/walnut versions were beautiful guns.
