Not sure if this a 150gr (did silvertips come in different weights?). This one measures 3.236.

Some old boxes on the web show 180 gr too. The 150's have two cannalures ,I have some that are not loaded. When my Stepson brings his 30-06 over I need to load him some 150's will have to do the COAL procedure.Maybe the higher cannalure is for use in lever action. Thank you for picture. Add 220 grains to the list.could be the ones I have are not that old

I pressure/velocity tested some factory 30-06 Winchester SuperX 150 Silver Tips back in 2008. My data sheet record shows they were loaded with 52 gr of extruded powder in the SuperX cases with, no doubt, WLR (8 1/2-120) primers. Cartridge OAL was 3.187".
The psi was 53,300 and the velocity from the 24' test barrel was 2853 fps muzzle.

I remember hunting with those in my dad’s 03A3, back when they were popular.
Me too in .30-06, and (I think) .270. They were the magic, do it all bullet of the day.
I don't remember ever seeing silver tip bullets offered offered for sale to re-loaders.
If I had I would have gotten them instead of Ballistic Tips----- back when BTs were $16. for a box of 100.

OK People. Enough of this idle chit-chat.

I've only loaded 180gr. Mine are 3.192" OAL. Great bullet...been using it for 45 years. Bought up some when they went discontinued back in the early 90s.

When Winchester quite making the flat base 150 grain silver tips I had a very hard time finding a replacement that would shoot as good out of a very picky 3006 .
Thanks for the information. Not sure if I have any 06 around here. I have a small stash of .270 that is my go to round if I get in a buck mood. I have a few .35 and a bag of 30-30 silver tips bullets I picked up at a gun show years ago but have never loaded. I didn't even have a 30-30 at the time but I loved that bullet in 270 and 35.
One of these days. I'll load them up and go hunting.
the one in the pic is a 180gr
150 had a shorter {octave}
if it has 2 cannular its most likely a 220gr

I have loaded and shot a few this week and very pleased with results.I don't want to use to many shooting paper, because paper does not taste as good as venison!
When silvertips were made they were available as components for loading, maybe in bulk only. I've some 180's still and they were available in many popular calibers. Same as when Rem corelokts were components.
I’m not sure if they were that much better than soft points, but for the additional cost, to be sure you had all bases covered, my dad always bought a box for White Tail season. In my opinion, the big advantage in bullet design came with the Core Lokt bullets. They expanded rapidly, but stayed together. Of course, that was before I started shooting cast.
The silver tips worked good as they did not get tip damage from movement in a magazine that makes the tip flat .
The 150 STs had 2 canalures.

So what were the tips made of? Zinc maybe or some alloy?
Here's a couple 300WM pics
These and two other boxes are what's left from my 300WM, I should probably post these in the S&S section.

Nice pictures, I bet they put some Moose or bears down back in the day.
