    Yahoo/AOL mail

Anyone use Yahoo mail? Verizon sold it, now it doesn't work for me, but wife's account still does. Called and tech did the remote control, couldn't fix it so said for 70$ his pro IT guy would. I'll change accounts first. Verizon/Yahoo sold it to another company, changed over recently.
    Whatever!

proton mail is free and private, and unlike yahoo, doesn't sniff your emails for advertising

I use Yahoo mail because my ISP (AT&T) uses their service. It's OK, and I'd hate to lose my main email address I've been using for at least 20 years, but I'd probably survive. I also use Gmail. It's tolerable. I get less spam from them than I do with the old Yahoo account, but I also have a newer Yahoo account that doesn't get very much spam, either. Longevity of the old email address may be why it gets so much spam. I use the Brave browser, and it blocks some of the advertising in my email, but not all of it. HTH!

Didn't know Verizon had yahoo. I know they switched me over to AOL but I still keep my @Verizon. Only have a few old time accounts using that email. Was able to post a few times on their "news" and had over 100K points or whatever they use. Supported Trump and in one shot those were gone, then posts got "reviewed" then flat put denied. I can post I love Biden and literally two seconds later get the post violates community guidelines (bad example as the post is garbage ). Censorship of any opposing views, plain and simple.

I still have my yahoo, can't access it from the browser anymore but still can on my iphone, once I lose access from the phone it'd be gone forever. I'm paying customer for protonmail but they also have a free tier.

It seems like nobody know who owns what anymore and these companies do a paper shift as often as they change underwear. My wife use gmail - but that isn't without issues. Every month or so - my wife uses an iPad and I use a Apple laptop - my wife will check our gmail account and for some reason, ALL of our e-mail gets wiped out - everything - and it just disappears never to be seen again.

I have a yahoo e-mail - mine is still working but I had no idea it had changed hands. I set it up years ago to use for the farm so that it didn't get mixed in with personal e-mail. I still use it once in a while, but the pop-ups and other advertising and Left crap that comes with it is really irritating. I noticed more of that stuff a while back - probably about the time it changed hands?

I've had a yahoo acct for many years. I'll keep mine as long as I can. So far, no problems.

    Why keep my acct?

Apparently,, the ruger forum, of which I've been a long time member of,, has issues,,, and for about 3 years now,, nobody new can register. Plus, when a member changes emails,, they lose access to the ruger forum. I know a LOT of people who've lost access to the ruger forum dot com,,, or wanted to join but haven't been able to do so. The current owner has had many offers of help in fixing these issues,, but hasn't accepted any help. So, if I were to change my email,, then,, I'd lose my access to that forum.
Next,, my business cards,,, all have my yahoo email address. So, while much of my business is handled via telephone,, I do get emails from potential customers.

So, unless I start having problems with yahoo,,, I'm stuck with them.

Thanks for this. I'm looking at it now. I've had GMail for a long time now, but am ready to move one from them.

And thanks for this. Explains why I wasn't able to sign up over there.

What really ticks me is that a lot of Docs use email for notifications, many use email addr. for user ID, can't get those anymore. Don't really care about the encryption, don't want cloud mail either, just need dependability.
Seems like Proton allows you to 'make-up' a domain name? She gets so much add stuff on email that she uses not sure what to do for her. Maybe that's why they kicked me off, trash all the ad stuff? i know the problem is on their end as I tried my old laptop with same account and it doesn't work either, for email. I do have gmail on phone but never use it. Not a google fan either.
    Whatever!

Yahoo has had a long standing set of issues with partnering with other services especially email forwarding services. Something to do with their spam algorithm I believe. My business has an internal email service that allows forwarding to a private email if you want to access on your phone and Yahoo is the one provider that we can’t get it to work due to Yahoo’s protocols.

I’ve been with Gmail since it was invite only and I’ve been happy with it for years (18 or 19 years) but many are afraid of big brother Google. They are known for traffic sniffing your history and emails to target information for you, but most sites do that now so I’m not offended by it. Their spam filters work well and they are essentially becoming a business standard now. My wife’s tech company (which specializes in legal document creation so security is paramount for them) uses gmail for their business email accounts because their IT trusts their security, that’s good enough for me. Never had the “data dumping” issue mentioned above.

Recommend avoiding the “old” companies that have been around since internet first went mainstream. Yahoo, hotmail, aol, etc. have all been left behind by new services and they have failed to keep up with the times for features and security based on what my friends in the tech world and what I’ve read indicate.

I use Frontier as ISP, they use Verizon/yahoo. Google would get bored reading my emails. Going to go ahead and try Proton free version.
    Whatever!

Proton is secure - with other Proton users. It is NOT secure with everyone else.
Service members, veterans and those concerned about their mental health can call the Veterans Crisis Line to speak to trained professionals. To talk to someone, call 1-800-273-8255 and Press 1, send a text message to 838255 or chat at VeteransCrisisLine.net/Chat.

If you or someone you know might be at risk of suicide, there is help. Call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255, text a crisis counselor at 741741 or visit suicidepreventionlifeline.org.

Right, have to keep that in mind - if you send an email to yahoo/msn/google user it will be read and parsed just like any other email.

Would you mind explaining this in more plain language? Not sure I’m following.
