    Linotype, good deal?

Dropped by the local scrap yard just to see if there was anything I could use. Now, I have never knowingly seen linotype (Monotype, see below) before.......but thanks to y'all having posted photos and descriptions I knew what I was looking at.....all 160 lbs. of it.
So, is .60 a pound a good price?
Oh yeah, also picked up a 13 inch double handle cast iron pot for $15........

OK, I can't seem to alter the title of this thread so I will put this here.....
I have just been informed that I do not have Linotype....it is Monotype. If I read the chart correctly, this stuff measures 28 BHN........I'm thinking this deal just got a bit better...
Here is a link that I found very informative:

    http://www.lasc.us/CastBulletAlloy.htm

While I have y'all's attention I have another question. In that big ole bin were several spools of solder as well as a few handfuls of loose solder that looked as if the spools had been crushed and they just tossed the squished wad in the bin. Most all the labels were torn/broken off so I have no idea exactly which solder it is ie: acid or solid core.....is that anything I should throw in my box next time I go down there?

You have a real steal of metal here. Know you have a great high velocity alloy for rifle or you can use it with pure lead and create other alloys and really stretch it out. Great eye at the scrap yard.

You made a mistake, that isn't lino but rather mono or foundry type. I'll dispose of it for you for free.

Seriosly, though, great score. That type metal is richer than lino, I've seen monotype go for $3 a pound. The dead giveaway for lino is that it is lines of type instead of single letters.

That stuff can make good high velocity rifle rounds even cut like 4 or 5 parts plain lead to 1 part that printers lead. Very nice score. +1 on make sure he has your phone number and hook him up with some donuts, pizza, or cold beer (if allowed). Can't have too friendly a relationship with the scrap yard guys.
Scrap.... because all the really pithy and emphatic four letter words were taken and we had to describe this source of casting material somehow so we added an "S" to what non casters and wives call what we collect.

Kind of hard to claim to love America while one is hating half the Americans that disagree with you. One nation indivisible requires work.

Ok, Monotype it is, thanks for the correction......

Wow, this just keeps getting better. I have added a bit of info in my original post to include a link to a very helpful site that speaks to the chemistry involved.

nice find! so would he be able to use that for .308, .30-06, or even 5.56 rounds? Up to this point I've concentrated on pistol boolits.... 38 / 357, 9mm, and 45ACP using pretty much straight COWW... although from reading some of the posts I think I'll be combining the COWW with purelead a bit for the 45ACP... I'll have to start another thread about this and read more posts too
