Love those type of days. It's like a treasure hunt.

That's great! I hit the Thrift store 3 times this week..... scored zero. The only pewter they have had in stock is a tray set and they won't break it up and it's not worth the price with all the glassware.

I just told the gal how nice the bowl and goblet set looked. Her grandmother brought it back from Europe.

Guesstimate of 4+ pounds today. A large wine? decanter I would bet is over 2# on it's own. I would have called it a vase, but it has a lid with a loop on the top. My heaviest piece yet.

Sellers around here think it's silver plated gold. It's all VINTAGE STUFF, just like E bay.

The pewter I bought cost $1.60/#. Unfortunately, it only weighed 2.5 oz. and is high lead. Oh well, skunk off the deck.

I picked up a $23 digital scale from HF that would run off of batteries so I could carry it in my pocket to weigh stuff. Not sure if I would break it out at a garage sale but at a flea market I would. Did this after I bought one of those plastic bottom tankards and found it weighed about half of what I though it did.

Been thinking of going to one of those hippy head shops and picking up a small hanging scale that weighs in grams. I could clip that on, lift, get a weight and doubt anyone at garage sale would notice. Still looking for one of those piles of pewter that people seem to find from time to time.

I also check the scrap yard cast bin, every so often something will show up in there. And that scrap is cheap.

I got my Digital scale at Amazon for $3.91

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I use it for almost everything, alloying, pewter in the thrift store, etc.

Found a beat up pitcher in the thrift store today, more than a foot tall.
Netherlands pewter. Wasn't worth 6.99, no bargaining allowed, but everything
is half price this weekend, if I'm near there maybe.

Kick me. Years ago, maybe 20 or so years when I drank beer,I had a nice little collection of pewter beer mugs, about 50 or so and my aunt had probably several hundred from all over. Her's dissapeared when she died and mine just simply dissapeared. Now I see what a mug like that would cost today and I am beside myself.Seen a beer mug in a flea market and they wanted $35.00 for it.No way.

Revere style bowls go over a pound at about 7" diameter.
