Federal Premium Target Gold Medal 1080 fps

My brother just bought some 22lr ammo after he got home he seen it was only 1080 fps. The ammo is Federal Premium Target Gold Medal 40 gr solid,1080 fps. He bought it because it was all they had and he thought he would be able to use it for small game. He called and asked me about it but I didn't know so thought I'd ask you guys. Will ammo that slow even work the action in a semi auto 22lr rifel. I'v never used any 22lr ammo that slow and probable never will.

Should be very accurate ammo...... As for your question, load five and go try them.

I've seen target 10/22's tuned to shoot standard velocity (1080fps) ammo. I've killed a number of small game with SV ammo. It's plus side is it allows very accurate shot placement as compared to most inexpensive high velocity ammo. It cycles my High Standard Victor perfectly which has a 4.5lb recoil spring.

Thanks guys,I'll tell him to give it a try. I myself have never used any 22LR ammo that was slower then 1200 fps so I wasn't sure about that Federal ammo. If I'm not mistaking the rifle he will be using it in will be his Ruger 10/22.

When I judged summer Biathlon Federal donated that to new shooters by the case. It was hard to find more accurate ammo in the savage and marlin bolt guns used as loaners. It would out shoot Eley 10X.

I haven't tried that ammo, but it should work. I shoot Aquila rated for the same velocity in my 10/22 without issue, and it's pretty accurate for match use.

I got a brick of it to try in our CZ 452's, the first gun we shot it in was the GF's High Standard Supermatic it wouldn't cycle it!?, but CCI Standard Velocity would, haven't shot it any of our rifles yet?

I used to shoot that stuff by the brick full out of my marlin model 60 back when I was a kid.

It does fine in several 10/22's that I have here. Should be plenty accurate, and just fine for squirrels.

Most likely it will cycle the 10/22.

If it cycles the action then I would use it. A hole through the thought locker and it is all over, no matter if it is at standard velocity or high. I use wolf match/target and cci target (standard velocity) in a cz 452. Lots of squirrels and some bunnies have fallen to this combo.

My Brother said it cycles the action so he's going to use them.

I prefer standard velocity as it shoots better in most of my guns. It may or may not function in some autoloaders .The Federal Gold Medal Match Target is probably my all around favorite ammo.I still have about five bricks left.I am hoarding and shooting it sparingly.

Remington subsonic is even slower & it worked fine in my Ruger 10/22.

Some years back my bullseye club bought a bunch of cases of this. It was packaged in white boxes at the time. It was much used and loved by All. l bought two cases. I have 1 brick left. Cycled every gun I ever saw it loaded into.

Federal made that ammo in three grades, 711B was the low grade, 900B was the middle grade, and 1000B also marked UM1B was the ammo made to compete in the 92 Olympics. Federal made the ammo with a large dimple in the bottom of the case to help evenly distribute the priming compound and then after CCI bought them out they stopped making it with the dimple along with discontinuing the 900B and UM1B The velocity was 1080 fps for all three grades but they did make a UM1 high velocity for running boar shooting
