LOYALTY ABOVE ALL ELSE, EXCEPT HONOR

Before we could afford those, carve them out of wood and shot rubber bands. Before that it was forefinger and thumb, yell bang/pow. Mattel was pretty good.
Whatever!
The good old days.
If I had just taken better care of my toys................
Those wonderful toy guns and the games we played back then are probably the reason why I am such an avid shooter and "gun crank" today.
My mother just gave me my baby book. One of the things she wrote in it was that at age 2 I was obsessed with guns, cars and trucks. Said I would get bored with any other toy in a matter of minutes but would play for hours with those. Some things never change. Guess it was just in my dna. Maybe she should have bought me a casting pot for my third birthday!
Those certainly brought back some great memories! Funny thing how those types of toys had such a great effect on our lives . . . turned me in to a crotchety right wing conservative deplorable . . . and all because of my Dick Tracy snub nose 38
Seems we all have fond memories of the games we played and the a game we took with those toy guns. I had a cannon to tow behind my trike, and a real double barreled rifle as defender of the home place. The cannon was a spring fired unit in glass marble cal. It worked so good I shot out a living room window. There is a picture of me in helmet and goggles proudly astride the trike, rifle shouldered and cannon in tow.
Later I had a Daisy 25 that was so big and the pump action so stout, I had to put the butt on the ground and use my weight to cock it. It came with a target that had a bell behind the bulls-eye.

I must have lived the dream.
I was raised in the Army and have lived all over the world.
My dad was usually the CO of small military bases, typically the MP Company on larger bases, and was a firearms instructor to boot.
As a 9 year old in Germany I sat on top of a moving tank with a Ma Duece and shot off 100 rounds. It took MONTHS for the smile to go away!
He used to go to the armory and take a Thompson and a few ammo cans for your Saturday morning fun....quite the thing to do as a kid, I have to say.
.45's? Take your pick. My Dad's favorite, but I still hate .45's to this day.
I was really lucky to be able to shoot the real things as a kid.
I think that is what did it to me. Now I just collect and shoot.

It was fun seeing the little boy at 3:25 for the Dick Tracy commercial.
Had to laugh, as he also starred in a Twilight Zone episode.

Bill Mumy.
Didn't realize how many shows he starred in.
