Is this sufficient crimp for 357 Magnum?

I use the Redding Profile Crimp. I loaded up some 180 grain boolits under a max charge of HS-6, and got some crimp jump (it was a Saeco RNFP, with a decent sized Crimp groove).

The weight of your gun matters. My .357 was 28 oz. If I had a 6” Python, I might not have seen that crimp jump (I read that on Buffalo Bore’s product info).

Measure the cartridge length, load six, shoot five, load five more, don’t shoot the round that was in both cylinders… measure it. If it moved less than 0.002” after experiencing the recoil of 10 other shots, you’re good to go.

Could just seat the bullet a business card thickness lower and crimp on the front band (?)

There's no problem at all in crimping directly into the lead as a separate step using the RPC.
(just avoid it with plated bullets)

Thump it on a wooden bench. If it moves it is too little.

I use the Redding profile or the Lee collet crimp die on all of my revolver loads

I do like the Lee factory die "stake" type crimp. Winchester uses a similar style on their factory ammo.

I would crimp more, similar to mehavey's. I put a healthy crimp on everything though.

With your accuracy load and proper seating depth, I read that the proper crimp is found by creating test loads with the variable being the crimp. You'll notice the group tighten with the proper crimp
