I suggest 25 gr of 1680 has a chance of not making much past the end of barrel (7,000psi/900fps) Take a look at Alexander Arms own 1680 data for "400 grain-ish" bullet http://www.alexanderarms.com/images/pdfs/beowulf_reloading.pdf also......

It doesn't. The grooves are supposed to weather-vane in the slipstream.

None as far as I've experienced.... whether smoothbore or rifled, commercial or handloaded (using Lyman 525 slug and a WAA12)

Lo siento mucho.... :veryconfu The cubed ratio (Va/Vp)^3 is used to multiply the predicted pressure. =(1450/1531)^3 * 35,000predicted psi = 29,734psi (approx) actual ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If one actually has...

FWIW: Again, look at the data. There's not hill of beans difference between 20-to-1 and 16-to-1. Adding add'k tin (absent Antimony) does nothing but add $$$-signs. [smilie=w:

Since Brinell numbers are literally the metal's yield strength in "pounds per square inch", they ARE linear. Double the brinell number and you have double the strength ("hardness") of the alloy. (If you don't believe this, check the chart HERE )...

Adding small amounts of tin doesn't really have an effect on hardness till you get way up there. (past 1-20/16, etc) Before you do anything else, baseline some w/ your pure lead.

In fact pure lead would be fine at traditional (Tier-1) 45 Colt loads https://www.hodgdonreloading.com/reloading-data-center?rdc=true&type=53

Tis puzzlement, to be sure. I went back and pin-gauged the cylinders just now: .452 passes; .453 does not Measured the (Lee) sized bullets: 452(-) .... Yet they don't pass. (Imagine a Ruger cylinder that hasn't been reamed) All the more...

Look at this post: https://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?397608-Hardness-14-15&p=4847843&viewfull=1#post4847843 OAL will entirely depend upon cylinder length & cylinder-throat dimensions. Case in point: - My 3-Screw...

What does this bullet look like (Flat nose of any significant dimension?) As to Lee holding up... if you don't abuse/slam the block/pins together (i.e., close by hand) ... a Loooonng time.

You're going through a lot of trouble for little gain at this point. - Size/gas-check the bare bullet in your push-through sizer. - "Greasy finger" lube it with a thin thin, thin coating of Lee Liquid ALOX, - Set upright on plate and Bake at...
