I have loaded and shot thousands of cast bullets over the last 55 years. I started casting my own bullets about a year ago. I have cast bullets for .308, .380, 9mm, 38/357, 44, and 45 caliber. I have experimented with hard cast alloys and shot them succesfully. Recently I began powder coating and/or gas checking bullets. I bought some 25:1 lead alloy from Rotometals. I cast 500 452 200 RNHP with Lube Groove and 500 No Lube Groove Bullets. I powder coated all of the NLG bullets with a Grey Metalic Chrome paint that coats nicely. The bullets look like real silver bullets. For the traditional lubed bullets I used Comercial 160 (LS Stuff)Lube and my RCBS Lubeamatic sizer/luber. The all the bullets accepted the Plain base alluminum gas checks readily. Since these bullets are much softer alloy then Lyman#2 I am expecting the hollow points to expand. I have shot this alloy in 200 grain Semi Wad cutters (non powder coated and with no gas checks) thousands of times at 830-850 fps with minimual leading issues. It is my plan to start these rounds in the same velocity range. If they don't shoot well and or expand I will start upping the velocity. Your thoughts and experiences are welcomed.
