Two New MP 452 200 Molds and using different alloys

I have loaded and shot thousands of cast bullets over the last 55 years. I started casting my own bullets about a year ago. I have cast bullets for .308, .380, 9mm, 38/357, 44, and 45 caliber. I have experimented with hard cast alloys and shot them succesfully. Recently I began powder coating and/or gas checking bullets. I bought some 25:1 lead alloy from Rotometals. I cast 500 452 200 RNHP with Lube Groove and 500 No Lube Groove Bullets. I powder coated all of the NLG bullets with a Grey Metalic Chrome paint that coats nicely. The bullets look like real silver bullets. For the traditional lubed bullets I used Comercial 160 (LS Stuff)Lube and my RCBS Lubeamatic sizer/luber. The all the bullets accepted the Plain base alluminum gas checks readily. Since these bullets are much softer alloy then Lyman#2 I am expecting the hollow points to expand. I have shot this alloy in 200 grain Semi Wad cutters (non powder coated and with no gas checks) thousands of times at 830-850 fps with minimual leading issues. It is my plan to start these rounds in the same velocity range. If they don't shoot well and or expand I will start upping the velocity. Your thoughts and experiences are welcomed.

Load some up to 850 fps and some at 900 fps ...
They should expand ... Nicely !
The gas check will help prevent leading with your soft alloy .

Those Penta Point hollow point pins make for some wicked looking Boolits !

I bought a 4-cavity mold to cast this bullet back in 2018 to use in a cheap springfield range officer I picked up the year before. It's been a fantastic bullet that's surprisingly accurate along with hitting extremely hard.

Most of my casting is done with 8/9bhn alloy/range lead from the berm. I do 150# at a time that yields 100# of usable alloy that stays pretty consistent at 8/9bhn.

Awhile back I thinned the herd and kept these 3 molds for the 1911/45acp (thinned the 1911's down/sold them all and bought the ro).
left: cramer 5f swc that's actually a hollow based version of the 5f that weighs 175gr
center: mp #68 clone that's a 200gr swc
right: mp 452-200

The cramer 5f swc hb and the mp 452-200 both have a oal of 1.180". The mp #68 have a standard 1.250" oal.

4.3gr of clays (+/- 870fps) with all 3 bullets pictured above @ 50ft/5-shot groups with a 1911 rested on a rolled up towel sitting on a cardboard box while sitting at a bench.

The upper 2 targets are the mp 452-200. The right target was sitting at the bench. The left target was playing around shooting offhand/one handed with the 5 shots done in +/- 25 seconds.

I loaded some of the mp 452-200's with a pretty hot load of power pistol (1000fps+) and was shooting them at a 25yd target. They chewed up the berm pretty fast hitting in the same area. Ended up digging these out of the berm from that 1000fps+ load.

I shot a pretty big groundhog with that pp/mp 452-200 load. It was uneventful, hit it with a center of mass shot when it was sideways. Nothing more than a bang-flop moment.

Looking forward to what you come up with. I think it's fantastic you have both versions of this bullet to work with.

Where do you get the gray metallic chrome powder?

Powder By the pound, on internet. With aluminum gas check they look like one homogenius bullet.

Thanks for your reply. I saw Loads of Bacon Youtube videos with a little harder alloy 9.7bhn. little to no expansion 715 fps and 850 fps. I have loaded a test batch with 25:1 alloy and 5.3 grains of Tightgroup, should shoot around 900 fps. Will post my results.

Did he water drop those? Depending on the timing they may have gotten significantly harder if he did thus the lack of expansion.

I ran expansion tests using the same mold as you and my bullets expanded with the same MV as you. My source was by source: FMJ, .22lr, and pellet, range scrap lead. With powder coating, my softest alloy was able to hold together in the barrel and expand into the target. Initially, the bhn between two alloys was only 1, yet the softer alloy expanded. I think it's the alloy. A year later, sitting in the garage, the pellet bhn was the same, the other ingot increased significantly. Here's a photo from my bullet test.
