If you were closer to me I Would take them as I cast fishing jigs with them but as it stands I got about 100lb of zinc at the moment and definitely not getting harder to get easier to get

They can be handy for counter weights or balast weight in vehicles for winter traction. Thrift store for an aluminum pan for a mold.

Not worth the shipping. There are 181 zinc cents per pound and the quoted zinc price per pound is about the same. So just melt those annoying pennies. Last time I shipped someone 6 ounces in an envelope it was $7-8 from the USPS.

Where’s the cannon ball guys? I bet they would take them. I got a good amount this been remelted into 12” long rods, and some muffins also.

I've got a number of 2' x 2' x .050" zinc sheets. Anybody know any good uses for those?

How does it cast in a round ball mold. I'm thinking sling-shot ammo. I've never tried it. Seems like sprue cutting might be a chore. jd

remy, you can also use this (Zn)to harden lead with. Before I get flamed to death for that statement, let me explain.
Up to 1% can be added to “bump” your lead hardness and give it more toughness. One of the members that used to be on here ( I will not reveal his name)stated that you could add Zn to do the above mentioned treatment to your alloy.
He also cautioned to go slowly because above 1- 1.5% you will get the dreaded oatmeal effect. Either way, good luck to you whatever you decide.

The easiest way to fix a pot of alloy with too much Zink in it is to never put any in.

This thread has been inspiring. I have a cannon with a 1.5" bore and have been using either cast lead balls, or as a cheaper alternative ping-pong balls filled with plaster. There's an enormous sack of pennies sitting by the pantry. I'll figure out a way to separate them into zinc and copper, and the zinc ones can get turned into cannon balls. time to start reading up about casting zinc.

Maybe not for many of us, but for the younger crowd, Zinc is the future of casting
as Lead gets more and more restricted and dries up.
Several folks have already made the switch.
Professor youtube has a few classes on it, and a couple years ago,
I got a heavy .45 cal. one in the butts or our local range.

The upside to it is you can get them up into jacketed speeds, and the boolit will weigh around 60%
of one cast from the same mold with Lead.
