need to know the instructions for removing rear sight on 98/34 Brazilian Mauser to install scout no drill mount - one manual states to drive out leaf pin, another states to press down on leaf + pull forward - neither are working for me - thanks in advance -

As a young lady once told me, over 70 years ago - you're ( possibly) not doing it right...

To remove the sight leaf (Ladder), use a non-marring tool like a hardwood dowel or a brass punch to avoid scratching the metal.

Place the tool directly on top of the sight leaf near the hinge.

Push down hard to compress the leaf spring hidden underneath the ramp.

While holding it down, push or tap the sight leaf backward (toward the stock/receiver) until the small side lugs slip out of their tracks in the base.

Lift out the sight leaf, then carefully retrieve the spring from inside the channel.

If removing the entire sight base (ramp), note that the complete sight base sleeve on military Mausers is silver-soldered or sweated onto the barrel.

Check for a retaining set pin or screw on the bottom or side of the base and remove it if present, then use a torch to melt the solder & drive the base off, toward the muzzle.

tried it - would not move no matter how much pressure - tried it with ;eaf both up + down -

The leaf pin may be rusted in place.
Try a good penetrating oil like Kroil and let sit a couple days and try again.
won't hurt

I have a removed sight, and using this I have it figured out.
I will take some pictures to try to make the process easier.
There is a trick to it.
Bear with me.

The battery in my camera is dead and needs to charge up first but in the mean time.
There is a small pin in the middle of what appears to be a larger pin, this needs to be removed.
Once that is removed, you should be able to press down on the sight where it hinges and then while pushing down, slide it to the rear.
Give that a try.

It might be invisible due to a finish overlay or just plain aging.

It might be visible after the area's burnished a bit.

If all else fails, grind the assembly off the barrel ( aka: bubba 101 ).

On some Mausers, there is a shallow rectangular slot on the top front of the elevation shaft.
A brass drift is placed in the slot, then hit it down & rearward to compress the spring and pop the hinge posts out of their recess.
What resembles pins are hinge posts.
Clear as mud?
I’m sorry for no pic- but I couldn’t find the correct Mauser rear sight around here….

thanks - clear yes but, mine has 2 slotted detents, one in front behind the screw + one in back when leaf is raised - use front one ? - will remove hand guard + try tonight - definitely no pin on this one -

took some pictures - there is definitely no pin in mine, cleaned both sides + used 40x jewelers loop trying to find a pin -

I added an arrow to your pic to show the rectangular slot I referred to earlier.
Use a fitted brass drift punch to force it down and rearward to free it from the base.

thanks you very much - i'll try tomorrow - metal on this one is over 90%, lots of dings on wood - cost me $79.95 from century when i had my C+R - bore is perfect, but could never zero in with my 30/06 lead reloads -trying to mount a LER scope w/o damaging the originality -thanks again -
