A few days ago I finally got to use my shot shell in my 460 S&W on something……Just a small “rattler”! My shells have such a tight pattern, it’s easy to miss when shooting at just a few feet when using the red dot sight. You have to remember to aim a bit high!

The shot shell replicates a 2 1/2” 410. I’m using a full length 444 Marlin Mag. brass, using a plastic shot cup with 1/2 ounce of #8 shot over a standard charge for the 2 1/2” 410 of WW 296, covered with an inverted gas check with a slight crimp, then sealed with hot glue! memtb

Rockindaddy ~ Hope it works as well for you as it does for me. Just scale it all to fit you cylinder. One thing; I made a brass rod w/ handle to assist in setting the over powder & over shot cards. I made a paper punch to make the cards out of thin cardboard (cracker box material) and I made 'em a little tight on purpose. Really seems to hold the powder & shot in place but are a wee bit tricky to install until you do a few............ Weidmannsheil. Old Germany greeting ~. "happy hunting".

I just had to kill one about three weeks ago , didn't want to but I did it any way . I have been feeding the locals every since I bought this place and most will come sit on the patio and eat while I set out there a few feet away talking to them . Unfortunately this little feller had issues , he came walking up the drive as I was parking my truck and I noticed he was stumbling and growling to himself . I thought that didn't look normal and sure didn't look like anything I had seen one do before . He stopped when he saw me and just stared at which time I noticed he had foamy drool running out of his mouth and strings of snot running from his nose. Never seen one with rabies but figured right off it was either that or he has got into some kind of poison so I went ahead and killed him with the 9mm I had on me at the time . Sorry , no shot load involved but it's the only coon I ever killed that didn't involve an actual coon hunt.

They also get distemper, which can make them sleepy and dazed. You were right to get rid of it before a problem happened.

Was concerned it might fight with one of my cats . The cats all have current shots but figured why take the chance. I have 7 or 8 coons that hang out with me and none have acted the way that one did . The others get along with the cats , as a matter of fact the cats will quite often eat out of the same dish with the little coons . Called animal control and left a message saying I had put one down that I suspected of being rabid and they never returned the call . You are supposed to report any suspected case and hold the body for pickup and testing in both Tennessee and Alabama . Guess someone for got to tell animal control that.

You make a good point about pelts worth. I do not know any neighbors who trap these days. Some states have outlawed trapping and they suffer increased rabies, trash can raids and residential pests. Duh?

I rely on my .357 and .44 shot loads because at close range the shot acts like a solid projectile at hand shaking distance. I am seeing more raccoons and oppossums lately. Those on my backporch get the lead poison.

In a week or two, I’ll be harvesting our Black Spanish grapes, which are often infested with wasp nests throughout the vines. Yes, I could use wasp spray but don’t want poison on the fruit.

I’m aware that I can load up some rice shells, but simply evaporate the nests with 44 snake loads. They completely disappear and any wayward wasps not caught in the pattern don’t hang around to find out what happened. Works every time…
