Have any of you guys used H4895 powder with a 200 grain cast boolit ? These were cast with the 314299 mold. Rifle I want to use them with is a 1942 Fazackerley No.4/MK2 with a great 5-groove rifling barrel. I have not slugged the bore but the cast bullet fits in the end of the muzzle without dropping in but in fact fits tight just after the round nose is inserted.
In my C1950 Mk4 No2 I use 26.5 gr H4895 w/dacron filler under the 314299 in R-P cases with CCI 200 primers. Runs 1800 fps with very good accuracy, much better than most milsurp.

Thanks Larry! Now I need to find some Dacron filler.
I like to get it in sheets at sewing stores. It's called "batting". The wife got me a lifetime supply.

Ah yes, batting. I'll go find some. This site is great! So much knowledge!
Rights, and Privileges, are not synonymous. We have the Right to Bear Arms. As soon as the Government mandates firearm registration, and permiting, then that Right becomes a Privilege, and may be taken away at our Master's discretion.
Of course all the posts refer to No1 Mk3 rifles that shoot MK7 ammo, the early LE1 and various Martini's require a different approach because they were fed Mk6 (215gn) ammunition , long nose to fill the chamber neck but they can still be very accurate.

The 314299 design has a sharp nose and you need a very hard alloy if the nose is to maintain shape.........I had some wild flyers with this mold and my usual alloy.
hylander , what I liked about my number 1 MK3 was the sights , in particular the front sight . It was much easier to see than some of the others and at my age that helps . I really like the Finn M39 and the Russian 91/30 front sight is easy to see . The Russian bores can be all over the place but the Finns are pretty good . With military rifles , always check the muzzle , if the bullet drops all the way in that is not a good sign .
On the other hand some of my thirty caliber molds fit in the M39 . I used to have a number four that could use the same molds . So , all is not lost ..............

Buy it cheap and stack it deep , you may need it !

Looks like you got some really good advise on your post.
I would second the notion that the 314-299 or 316- 299 is an outstanding bullet for many of these old rifles, including the 303 British.
I have a long branch that is a really well preserved rifle with a nice shinny sharp bore, and good wood fitment.
It has always shot in the 2 inch range at 100 yards. Recently I purchased an unissued 50's vintage # 4 Mk2 and it seems to shoot a bit better. I have not had enough time to really work with the last rifle, but so far it looks very promising.
The British Enfield is very susceptible to accuracy issues involving wood changes.
I've never owned an Enfield that had issues such as this, but I had a buddy that had very poor accuracy that was traced to barrel channel changes, and it required some special effort to refit the wood.
Good luck with your new toy.
Just as an aside, I was given a 303/270 rifle that was going to be cut up in a drop saw. This target was the first 10 shots after I formed the cases. The boolit is a scaled down copy of the 311284 and weighs 132gns.
