What are the differences and why choose one over the other?

My understanding is the 45-45-10 dries faster and better. The Xlox leaves a tacky feeling even after some drying time. I just went through a batch of 45-45-10 and absolutely no leading so there's that also. I will say that it didn't completely dry and still had a very slight tacky residue but is not an issue for me.

IMHO Alox is too thick. 45/45/10 is alox that has been thinned and mixed with mineral spirits so it applys in an even thin coat that will dry faster.
I've thousands of pistol bullets every year for quite some time. no leading, if you can see it you have used too much. GW

LEE alox is tough. I had some on a spoon and stuck it in my 800 degree lead pot to melt off and no effect.

I assume you are talking about Glenn's products.
Xlox is the equivalent to Lee's Alox.
Glenn's 45-45-10 is the equivalent to the DIY 45-45-10 in Recluse's sticky-thread.

45-45-10 is a thinned version of Xlox, to make it easier to apply. The Xlox is the lube, you want a thin coat, so either one will work the same, So it all comes down to your technique of application. If you use heat, both can be applied fairly easily.

Don't apply it by dipping or even bag & shake.

Just put a dab on your thumb/forefinger and "grease" the bullets lightly.
Place on plate in warm(170) oven overnite and they'll be hard-coated/dry next morning.

Lee ALOX is tough as nails once that's done.

If, after allowing 24 hours to dry, it is still tacky, YOU USED TOO MUCH! As noted above, properly applied, the lube film is almost invisible. Either product works great, properly applied.
