Absolutely. Use the delrin rod, and keep the wooden rod in the rifle for appearances.

My one and only ML rifle has an orange ramrod like that.

FWIW, I fitted RR ends I got online onto the ends of my shortened driveway marker(s), so there wouldn't be any splintering with use.

Muzzle guide anyone? I have and used with all types and with a muzzle guide. I have modified several aluminum and Delrin made from shotgun bore guides.

Maybe I'm ignorant, but in over 65 years have never owned or used a muzzle guide when either cleaning or loading (front stuffer) a firearm - and have never experienced wear to either rifling or muzzles & crowns.

I'm not someone who would need to do such chores multiple times, like a formal competition shooter.

However, I also used plenty of care doing both chores, never hurrying (to get it done).

most of us are not that careful (or lucky)
all my rods wear muzzle protectors as permanent fixtures - its not a big deal - seen enough (several) ruined barrels from shoddy cleaning
our environment (inland aussie) is partly to blame "the dusty red soil plains" - that stuff is ever present, fine enough its hardly noticed, but so abrasive it cuts like diamond - any hint of moisture or oil it will stick to a rod - aluminium and composite worst but wood, brass whatever .. stainless is about the best for grit but use a muzzle guide and other end a jag or brush bigger than the rod diameter and you cant hurt the rifling

I can and have for years with no guide, but just makes it a little easier using one for me when available YMMV.

I got my order in, got a guide also. Can't hurt, especially if using a glass rod. Thanks for the advise.

the heavey synthetic material rod will be just fine. Although if you are HUNTING from a fixed position, you really should have a regular BRASS range rod.

I was just thinking back before I started to use driveway markers as hunting RR's..............

When I had plain wood RR's, I used a 36" length of 1/2" I.D. PVC plumbing pipe, with a cap glued on one end.

I'd set it in my shed, capped end "down", fill it with enough kerosene to come to several inches below the open end - then drop the wood R in there to soak for a couple of weeks.

The kero is an oil derrivative, with an evaporant mixed in - so, after it's bath, I wiped the RR down with a clean rag and let it air dry for a day.

After that: no kero smell/odor, and the RR had just a little flex in it - but none of them ever broke.

May want to try Coyote Creek in Rochester N.H. They are right next door to T/C.

Coyote Creek is completely independent of T/C, with only the name being similar to the former T/C custom shop, Fox Ridge. They do sometimes have T/C items, but no more or less than the other local shops. The T/C Rochester factory shut down forever around 2010, and with it the last of any remaining sidelock support. The site is now a car dealership.

T/C is restarting at a new site further up Rt 11 in Farmington, but they have not reintroduced anything sidelock related yet.
