Late model Weaver K2.5, amiright? I took the biggest buck of my life with a V3 on one of my Marlins.

I have a cheap but good shooting Mossberg 100 .308 that I'm going to put my new Burris on, since all my lever actions are well served with the scopes already on them. This particular rifle is fairly trim and has about the same size and weight as a Marlin 336, so I think a 2-8x35 would be a good scope size for it. I feed .300 Savage level loads to all my .308 rifles and they do great with them.
    Currently casting and loading: .32 Auto, .380 Auto, .38 Special, 9X19, .357 Magnum, .257 Roberts, 6.5 Creedmoor, .30 WCF, .308 WCF, .45-70.

I have a 3x9 on the 336 30/30 and an Iray IR on the henry long ranger (308W) - don't care how they look, I'm not a cowboy.
    Whatever!

I did a test fit of the Burris 2-7x35 on my Mossberg 100. Just as I suspected, the scope needs high rings if you are going to mount it with the objective bell above, rather than in front of, the front scope base. My Burris medium rings were a bit short. My Leopold PRW medium rings, which are more like tall medium rings, just barely cleared. And I mean probably .005-.010 of clearance. Its not a deal breaker by any means, but it is unusual for a compact scope to require taller rings than most. I did order an EGW rail so I can move the scope back farther than the two piece Weaver bases allow, hopefully I can shoot it soon.

Scope mounting locations are unique to each person. The average height and weight folks have it the easiest. I am 6' 4". Too get the scope far enough forward I have to use an extended scope rail mount.

It's been a long time since I purchased some of these, but at the time they were the best available due to using the rear sight dovetail in the mounting system and the rail fully contacting the barrel and receiver.

Just ordered a Vortex 1-6 Strike Eagle from PSA seems like a decent deal (under $200) on a smaller profile scope for one of the lever action carbines I have:

I looked at those when searching for my 1894C glass. The scope is a good size, but that reticle makes the baby Jesus cry.

The problem I run into most often is scopes not fitting rifles or being too far forward due to the position of the mounting holes in the receiver. Pretty much all of the .30'06 length actions have this problem. It's like, the position of the factory mounting holes hasn't changed since the days of long tube Unertl scopes. Even the common 3-9x40 of today will often just barely fit when using two piece mounts. I had this problem with both of my Savage Axis .308's. One of them wears a Redfield 2-7x33 in Leupold extension rings and the other a Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 on a Weaver rail. It is physically impossible to fit the Redfield on the Axis without a rail or extension rings. The Burris would fit with standard mounts and rings but just barely and still be really far forward. The top of the Axis receiver is solid and it would have been nice if Savage had included a few extra mounting holes.

I feel like the size of the scope and ring height is what makes most scopes look wrong on lever guns. The newer LPVO scopes don't look too tacticool for a lever gun IMHO. Mount it low and it should look fine. My 1-6X Primary Arms is the top one. Great glass as well.

Yeah, that's what I say. A compact Leupold or old school Weaver with straight objective is perfect for a lever action and looks great.

I agree, but I am not putting it on a precision rifle. I normally use a spare scope to do load development and then use tang sights for day to day use. I figure the Vortex will be better than tang sights.
