If that price on the rock chuck supreme is right they will sell as many as they have in a hurry. Our WalMart has a few reloading items but not much. No powder or primers

Our Wal-mart had a bunch of RCBS dies. There was a stack of at least eight .243 Winchester dies. Also primers and not locked up.

The way Wal-Mart (and other large retail stores) work is that they rent shelf space to their distributors and it is up to the distributor to send product to fill that space. In some cases, the distributors will actually send a person to set it up and work the display but not always. Even then, however, the distributor rep isn't always attuned to the best ways to present product on the shelf.

It's also notable that in most cases, Wal-Mart doesn't even pay for the stock until it sells and then they take their cut and pay the distributor, very much like a consignment sale.

As a result, distributors will try to dump their old stock that isn't moving very fast and try to get rid of it. In the case of the photos above, it's clear that they just believe that the customers are pretty stupid and will just buy anything rather than pick up what they actually need or want.

If you're lucky, you may find some decent value in buying something that you've been unable to find for quite a while.

Knowing how they do things I expect to see some crazy cheap pricing on this stuff when it doesn't move at the rate they expect. Back in 2020 when there was no .22LR available anywhere Walmart clearanced some Remington Golden bullet 100rd jewel case for $5 for some crazy reason. I grabbed all they'd let me buy (3) and sent the wife for 3 more

Back in the 80's the dept. managers of Walmart had a budget and could stock what they wanted as long as it sold. Local Walmart had Weatherby and SKB. Went to work in western NC and the one in Boone had a broad selection of reloading supplies. That was post Clinton. I remember buying my first pound of Varget there. Also bought The Pizza Tapes. Garcia, Grisman and Rice. Very spicy in places.

NO guns or ammo here in Oregon for several years now, and they have never sold reloading equipment/supplies.

No firearms here in SE Pa. Some ammo locked up.

But for selling "reloading equipment" this is a joke. A dozen different boxes of bullets and a press? How far will that get anyone?

While the slightly high priced primers are good they are not going to sell enough of anything else to make it worth stocking.

There are two Walmarts in Winchester, VA. We go to the "nicer" one about once a month when I have my doc appointments there. They used to sell powder too, but haven't seen any in a few years. I don't think I ever saw primers. Their stock has definitely diminished in their offerings and I have not been impressed by either firearm departments. I will look again in about three weeks after my next appointment.

Here in Northern Indiana, the Walmarts carry a small selection of ammo and BB/Pellet guns behind a locked case, some cleaning supplies and cases, and that's about it. They've actually been clearancing out a good portion of the cleaning supplies, accessories, and cases and the single isle is getting pretty bare as of Saturday when I was in picking up cat food. I picked up a decent soft shotgun case a couple of weeks ago for like $5.

I had never seen reloading supplies in a retail environment until Big-R rebranded (or merged with or something) as Runnings, and they have a half isle in the gun department of reloading supplies. I may buy some powder there as the prices are decent, but their bullets are a bit high and they only carry RCBS and Hornady equipment, and all my stuff is Lee. Unfortunately, no primers at the first of the two local ones I stopped at, unlike the one I popped into in OH a few weeks back, but I can get those at Dunhams for roughly the same inflated prices. I've got a good source for cheap SPPs, but LRPs hasn't seemed to come down at all.

Walmart has an online retail store like amazon, they have a bunch of reloading tools and if I understand correctly, you can ask that they be delivered to your local store for free.

About 15 years ago I bought a Winchester M70 Black Shadow 300 WSM with a cheap scope on clearance from Walmart for less than $300 tax included.

For me, that whole display is depressing. I try to avoid Walmart at all costs, I think the last time I went into one was two Octobers ago because I needed some trolling motor batteries. In general, I would rather go in and see nothing shooting related, rather than a pathetic assortment of random items.

One of our local Walmarts (central Louisiana, we have three) carries hunting and 22 ammo but no centerfire pistol ammo. I've not noticed reloading gear / supplies there, but will check. They carry targets, cleaning supplies, earpro, holsters, etc., but only air guns AFAIK. There's usually no one at the desk, so I go to Automotive and they eventually come over and check me out. One time when I asked for 22 ammo, the employee just said, "I don't know what that is, come behind the desk and get it."

Then again, maybe they're attracting different clientele -- The other day I saw a 20-something guy walking around another department in grey sweatpants and T-shirt, wearing a solid black face mask (with only eye holes) and "revving up" a small toy chainsaw as he went from aisle to aisle. Never saw him again, though. Hmmm....

Your statement here just made me realize what is wrong with the selection of the reloading supplies--NO PISTOL supplies!

Walmart removed all pistols, pistol ammo and .223/5.56 ammo from the stores awhile back. They must be applying the same rules for reloading supplies. That is why this doesn't have much chance of succeeding---no 9mm or .223 supplies.

A search for "smokeless powder" on walmart.com came up with some interesting results but not what was desired.

Nicholasville Ky. has the same stuff as pictured in the first post. No bullets seen. My opinion primers should be behind counter locked up.

We can thank that Bozo in Texas who was shooting Hispanics with his AR, IIRC in the El Paso area, along with the *** who went into a southern Walmart Store, bought a box of 38's and then shot a couple of people on his way out before being killed by a CCW holder, for the fact that Walmart no longer sells pistol ammo or "short barreled Rifle" ammo. The President of Walmart apologized for the inconvenience, but fear of catastrophic law suits pretty much sealed the deal.

I own a Detective Special that was purchased from Walmart cerca 1986.
