Gentlemen, there's actually an equation to figure out how many is enough.
"n" is the number of firearms you currently have. "n + 1" is the proper number of firearms to own.

5 X 12Ga, 3 X 16Ga, 2 X 20Ga, 3 X 410
I have my Grandfather's 12Ga. H&R.
My Dad's 12 Skeet O/U, 20Ga pump, and 410 h&r
The 12Ga pump my Dad bought me 45 years ago.
None of them are for sale at any price
As far as how many are enough, I have no clue....

Just bought a Remington Model 3200, 12 ga skeet. Have no idea how many 12 ga guns I have. Lots of Remington Model 1100, assorted gas guns. Got two Model 12 in 16 ga. Whole bunch of 20 ga in various configurations. 2 28 ga O/U. I am guessing that I have in excessive of 35 shotguns. You buy but don't sell.

I don't know how many is enough but 1 more seemed necessary when I liberated this Beretta 20 ga from my local gunshow last weekend. I was shooting my sons 12 ga Superposed until I got tired of it beating me to a pulp.

Ruger Red Label in 12 gauge with 28 and.410 Briley tubes, second Red Label in 20 gauge.
Browning Citori Plus in 12 gauge.
Italian made Tilkka 12 gauge over under in 12.
Winchester Model 12 Featherweight in 12 gauge. Second Model 12 in 16 gauge.
Very nice 1936 Levefer "A" grade in 12 gauge. Beautiful wood and an English stock. Should have brought it's 16 gauge twin that came through Jaqua's a year ago.
1923 Levefer 12 gauge that is out for rebluing. Belonged to a neighbor 2 houses east from my parents house. Hunted pheasants with him ~1970.
1920 Ithaca that is going to be reblued when the Lefever is done. It belonged to my next door neighbor, hunted pheasants with him too. He was the son-in-law of the Lefever owner.
The son/grandson had no interest in either shot gun. Silly boy.
For being 100+ years old, both guns have beautiful bores and lock up like new.
I suspect when Dick Williams gets done with the bluing and I get them back together, I'll have two almost new side-by-side 12 gauge shotguns.
My father purchased the fancy diamond checkered 12/870 the first year they came out, that is my most cherished! Somehow late in the fourth quarter here I have an 870 for every mood. The question to the original question, anybody go diving after a specific and find one you forgot you had?
One is enough! As far as I know there is no limit on how many you can want.
I am not sure how many are enough. My stash is dominated by 16 gauge with a few 12's and 20's sprinkled in to keep it interesting. By preference, I prefer the singles followed by autos then pumps. I will admit I am extremely fond the ancient 12ga A5 that wears a almost as ancient Hastings Parlox Rifled Slug barrel.

Down to only 8 at the present time. Two old 12 ga 870 Wingmaster Magnums with multiple
barrels, one 20 ga 870 again with multiple barrels, one H&R 12 ga, three H&R 20 ga, and one H&R 410. Enough for me (for now).
Ten, including a beautiful 1970 ish Winchester 101 12 gauge that’s in jail another 9 days.
I was worried when I saw the title of this thread... I thought someone's wife was asking...
I don't know......I haven't gotten there yet!
I believe I am up to 19. Shotguns that is. That includes some sentimentally priceless ones from my dad, grampa, father in law, and uncles, all no longer with us, plus those that have tickled my fancy. To answer the original question, I will never have enough. Shotguns are my first love, will forever be.
Don't get me wrong, I have rifles and handguns too, but other than spurts of interest (especially in handguns) they just sort of "were." I can honestly say I don't see myself buying any other rifles or pistols, and I've been thinking of sending some of those on their way. Possibly to fund more shotguns, or at least to make things easier for my wife when I'm no longer here.
I look back and saw the only one I listed was the one that got away. At this time, 14.
A5's - Mag 12, x series Sweet 16 and a 20 ga 3"
12 ga: Rem 870 & 11-87 both long barrel waterfowl guns, Mossberg 500- 2 barrels, TC Renegade cap BP
20 ga: win Model 12, WBY Orion OU, High standard Nato Pintail, Stevens sxs
410 - Monky Wards sxs, Stevens, bolt w/ magazine and a bolt w/a tube mag.
Bucket list Model 12's in 12, 16 & if I could find one at a reasonable price 410, Ithaca 37's in 12, 16 & 20
Well, I didn't think I really need another one....but....traveling along the Oregon coast I stopped into a gun shop and found a SPRINGFIELD ARMS COMPANY 20 ga. break-open single shot exposed hammer & with automatic ejector. stamped on the barrel is 1929 Model. No cracks in the stock, no bulge in the barrel, nice clean bore, 28" barrel.
current count
3-12 ga / a dbl barrel, a pump, & a semi-auto
2-20ga /a bolt action Mossberg X 3" chamber, a Springfield Arms single shot
1-.410 / single shot break open.

Death to every foe and traitor and hurrah, my boys, for freedom !
We could shoot a normal shotgun to death in a year with 6-10 boxes per week. So i sold everything and bought better.
12g beretta a400 for me
20g beretta a400 custom fit for wife.
Then i bought this beretta Joel Etchen special, 20g, 28g. 32" barrel beautiful gun. And shoot mostly 20g, but i love 28g https://www.joeletchenguns.com/etche...8-with-32-inch
With both myself and my wife, shooting 20g it made buying/reloading/storing shells easier.
Then i found this beautiful higher end cz side by side.in 20g.
Next we just moved to a new home and still looking for a place to use them :[
I gave my oldest son a 28 ga today that I shot on 2 occasions for his birthday with a bunch of shells. Still have 2 more 28s. If I could plan it out I would give away my last shotgun the week before I died. At 72 I don’t think I have that many years left.
