Johnson's paste wax replacement?

Wanted to play with making my own lube , decided to try and make some of bens red , got 10lbs of yellow pelletized beeswax and can get everything else pretty easy...just not the Johnson's paste wax... Apparently it was discontinued a while back


Anyone know of a good easy to find replacement?

There are a lot of similar lube recipes without using Johnson’s paste wax. You can find it on eBay at ridiculous prices. I still have a can that I use very sparingly.

If you will search Bens post he did recommend a replacement. I don't remember what it is.
It's been my experience when searching the forum I get best results going to an outside search engine and type in what you're looking for and add Castboolits.

Ben used the Trewax and Lundmark as a substitute and say's anything that is a Carnauba wax will work in the wood wax line. Not car wax which contains silicone. You can buy pure Carnauba flakes from Amazon also . One of the guys on Artful Bullet used the flakes to replace the Johnsons and reports no change in the resulting lube.

I heard there is a product called LUDMARK. (I think ) sold at Home Depot. Haven't needed it yet. Don't give up on it. Ben's Red is great. So is Ben's LL.

I've tried using the LUNDMARK liquid paste wax as a lube ingredient, and from my testing with it I would recommend avoiding it like the plague. It NEVER dries. Swirl lubed on bullets and left in the sun in +100 degree heat for three weeks - and it's still wet. Baked in the toaster oven - twice - and still wet. When added to other lube ingredients it's like adding paint thinner, except that paint thinner will eventually dry and Lundmark will not. The Lundmark went straight in the trash, and good riddance. Here's the really funny question; it's actually supposed to be a floor wax. I can't fathom how something that never dries would be in any way useful as a floor wax. You'd be better off spreading motor oil on your floors. The stuff is totally useless.

News Flash : Heat causes wax to melt not dry.

I bought my first carnuba wax pellets from Amazon at least 7 years ago.

Any use of Carnuba wax in the range of 1 or 2 percent of total seems to work and work very very well.

You will have to heat whatever your adding it to, in my case Alox. Whatever the total weight of mix, add 1 unit per hundred of wax.

Eddie Southgate: News Flash: Not drying, EVER, under any circumstances, causes NOT DRYING. Room temperature - lube not drying. Heated for extended periods, then returned to room temperature - still wet. Putting the lubed bullets in a mini fridge to cool them - guess what? still wet. If you use Lundmark as a lube ingredient, a month later - the bullets are still wet. You're welcome to do your own testing if you like, but I've found Lundmark to be completely unsuitable as a bullet lube ingredient. It is absolutely not a replacement for the discontinued Johnson's liquid paste wax. None of this really matters now because I've been using 45-45-10 for years with great success.

MinWax works fine as a sole lube, at least for bullets under 950-1,000 fps.

I tried it on a wood shovel hand, seems same as JPW.

It has Carnauba just like the Johnsons , Trewax and Lundmark paste waxes . Butchers used to be great wax , wasn't sure they still made it as I haven't seen it in years other than the occasional can on Ebay at double the price for a 60-70 % full can. Staples Crystal Clear 211 paste wax also is a Carnauba wax that is available from Amazon but it's over $30 a can as is Boston Polish . All can be used and will work the same, just depends on how much you want to spend. I use the Trewax because it is available at Ace Hardware locally and is cheaper than the others .

I picked up the caranauba flakes and used them yesterday in some bens red.. going to re melted and add in more raw bens red to soften it a bit as I stiffened it a hair past my liking. hearing the problem with subs for jpw bothers me..id hate to waste a batch of red because it would not set.

This Butcher's wax was a vintage can (90% full) I got at the County's HHW free room, I only posted as I never heard of it before.
