    Very hot Lee pot

I made a post but I don't think it came out
I left the Lee pot on forgotten. I came back after 15 minutes and the alloy was red, very hot, with a crust on the top.
I managed to turn it off, remove the crust with a spoon and completely empty the Lee pot.
This is the photo of the yellowish scab, I don't know what it is. I hope I haven't ruined my Lee pot.

The pot is fine but I would definitely buy or build a PID for it.

    The pot will be fine.

I had a pot of mystery metal one time I thought was Lead and it did that.
I found out later it was Cadmium.
Looking it up, and reading some articles from Professor Google--- I didn't want any part of it.

If your Lee pot has a knob on it ... set it on number 8 when heating things up ...
I usually cast at number 7.5 ... keeping it on #8 will keep it from overheating ...
if you forget about it ... but try not to forget when you are casting .
If the pot didn't burn up / out ... it should be okay .

I am surprised an electric pot could get hot enough to cause that. I thought they topped out about 900 degrees and that shouldn't have turned led into slag in 15 min. Is this an alloy you used before?

Was yours a 240v version? 120v US pots can’t get that hot.

I have a PID, as I had finished making boolits, I took the thermocouple out of the pot
My version is 240, since in Argentina the electricity is 220

It is the first time I empty the pot and I took out a lot of dirt from inside

I use pure lead and add linotype

The yellow crust is likely Litharge, a lower oxide of lead.

As the oxidation level goes up, lead oxides turn red, then brown and finally black.

I would have turned heat* down to 8, wait 5 minutes, then flux & clean stuff off top.

I thought this was going to be about Shabu-Shabu.
Sorry, it's Friday night and my spousal unit is trying to force me to watch Thai soap operas. My mind is bent.

If your PID is in control of the pot and you remove the thermocouple the control has no control or sense of the temp. My pot has the original temp control as a backup so it cant do that. Check your wiring sense yours it 220 volts may be wired different.
