Gotta love those old Winchesters. I brought my 1895 .30-40 and the 1910 Winchester Self Loader .401 to the range.
You can tame the .30-40 with Red Dot and still ring the gong at 100 yds. Little recoil, fun to shoot. This was my Holy Grail rifle.
There's no taming the WSL .401. 250 gr lead bullet, 22+ grs IMR4227. Not bad recoil, but definitely not mild, and loud. The ejected brass has a mind of its own.
I actually bought the .401 dies about three years before I found the rifle.
