I had one of those combination front sights that was original to my Ballard Pacific in .40-85, and thought it was great until I shot past about 300 yds. Then at 400-1000 yds. it was really tough to get a decent sight picture, so I changed it out for a globe sight I had.
That's awesome. I'm pretty jealous......
Beautiful rifle.

Nice purchase!
The Creedmoor models used in the 1874 match were around serial number 3000, and when these models were offered in 1874 catalog the Rolling Block Sporting rifles were being sold at over 1000 per year. My prototype Creedmoor was built in 1873 and is in the low 1500 range. So based on your serial number and a "guesstimate" of say 1250 Sporting Rifles per year, it's likely 1878-79 time frame. Of course all styles of Sporting Rifles on the large #1 frame shared serial number ranges, so no way to say how many were Long Range, Mid Range, or Short Range.
Just read where you did buy it.
Congratulations!!!!!

That look on your face, when you shift into 6th gear, but it's not there.
