Wow - that will kill on both ends...
Very nice, and if Grizz was charging probably wouldn't feel a thing!
That is one thick recoil pad( and probably still not enough).
And I thought my .45-70 was dangerous on both ends.

OK People. Enough of this idle chit-chat.

500 Linebaugh on steroids with a shoulder stock..
Got a .22 .30 .32 .357 .38 .40 .41 .44 .45 .480 or .500 S&W cylinder that needs throats honed? 9mm, 10mm/40S&W, 45 ACP pistol barrel that won't "plunk" your handloads? 480 Ruger or 475 Linebaugh cylinder that needs the "step" reamed to 6° 30min chamfer? Yep, "That's gonna leave a mark" Black,blue and icky green.
If a 41 won't stop it, I wouldn't bet my life on a 44.
Better a blue shoulder than a chewed off face.

Maybe I shouldn't ask.......Who ground off the finish installing the pad?

Seems designed to go into a scabbard while the specs are not given, it does look light in weight for what it chambers. Part of carrying a gun for self defense is that it gives you confidence and that heavy caliber rifle does indeed seem to do that. The easy button for stopping bears is a pump 12 ga shotgun with slug or often just buckshot is what many carry.
Agreed. A 12 gauge pump with top end Brenneke slugs would be just as capable and way less money. And you could practice more using low recoil ammo.
I'm not to good with a sander but the stock is do to be re-finished anyway. The forearm was shortened about 1.5". The real fun was making a barrel band to hold the mag tube. Getting a 71 or 1886 to feed 50 EX or 50-100 ( both the same case) is a chore. First getting them to go into the mag tube requires a bunch of filing and polishing. Depending on who makes the action there may be a half moon cut in front of the loading gate. On the 86 the carrier needs to be opened up a bit. Rim size is close to 45-70 but the body is fatter. Most of the 71s have a cartridge stop designed for a bottle neck cartridge so that sometimes has to be changed out with one form an 86. Sometimes the feed rails need to have a bit taken off. There seems to be quite a few variations on the actions wether it's from Browning ,Winchester or Japan.

I like the looks but I'm not sure I would like to shoot it..........
Very nice job on the proportions. Shortening the forend really helped in keeping it aesthetically balanced. As John mentioned a new barrel band for the mag tube was milled. Feeding issues need to be modified and in some cases the forend cap. Not many gunsmiths will tackle or attempt a project like this. Thanks for sharing the picture!

I'm thinking Mercury recoil reducer AND the pad.
IT AINT what ya shoot--its how ya shoot it. NONE of us are as smart as ALL of us!
