Been using 2 stroke oil but I don’t have any handy. I have new and used motor oil, wax and a garage full of other stuff. What else works?

As you've learned-- pretty much anything works.
2-stroke oil for air cooled engines is a big time favorite because it takes the heat better than most other things.
Water cooled boat engine oil will work,
but isn't made to work as well at the higher air cooled engine temps like oil for a chain saw does.
As little as it takes, and as cheap as it is, I'd just buy another small bottle of it.

OK People. Enough of this idle chit-chat.

Back to your oars. The Captain wants to waterski.
I recommend Synthetic two stroke oil, but have used bees wax or anti-seize. Usually getting too much in the process and having to clean a mold and start over again.
Dry graphite.

Synthetic Ester oil for AC compressors. Less residue left behind than 2 stroke oil. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008PKVO66...ing=UTF8&psc=1

Permatex Anti-Seize Compound #77134 or Permatex Anti-Seize Lubricant #81343
The anti-seize componds/lubricants withstand heat to 1600 F .
They are thicker than 2 cycle oil ... but stay in place longer ... I rather like them , they seem to stay on the hot mould longer ...like a grease normally does.

Synthetic Ester oil for AC compressors I used this for a while, then found it hardens BAD and is almost impossible to remove! Now I use #2 pencil lead (graphite). I do use normal 2 stroke on the handle bolt.
Whatever!
Pencil. Or pure graphite if I have any around. I usually run the pencil over the bottom of the sprue plate before each casting session.
Take wheel bearing grease & mix in enough powdered ( black ) graphite to form a thick paste. The heat does not affect the graphite in any way. Works just like the stuff you buy. Takes the heat....no problem & stays put.
