Hi all
My Son dropped off a Poulan 221 chainsaw and ask if I could replace the fuel lines. Can anyone tell me what line the fuel filter goes on, the big or the small. Thanks Ron.

I have replaced mine. I guess I only remember one fuel line. The fuel filter is inside the tank and the line comes out of a hole in the tank and goes to the carb.
Not sure without seeing it, if it’s a primer bulb type, working the primer should help figure out flow. One of my saws actually has a third line that goes from the crankcase to the carb to work the fuel pump.
I would think the big one and the small one is the return but some engineers are pure evil.

Are the lines the same length? Last time I replaced one it seems like one was maybe 1/2” shorter and the filter went on the long one.
Push & pull on them one at a time to see which one goes to the carb.
If one is a larger dia. follow each to see which one goes to the carb.
Also, if the lines are different size, the filter may not want to fit one one or the other.

I own a Craftsman/Poulan 42cc chainsaw. On mine, the 3/32" line (small line) is the longer one that feeds the carb. That one takes the filter. The 1/8" line is the pulse line (return line) and connects to the primer.
Last time I changed lines on blower, YOUTUBE had a few videos. Some good info.
Might try that ?

I found a u tuber called DIY Tinker. He gave step by step on fuel line replacement. The filter goes on the small line.
