OK, sorry to kick up a cloud of dust with this but how often do you clean your .22 rifle?

clean the action on semi-autos every few hundred rounds to keep it running smooth. bolt action rifles, I keep the action lubed, maybe wipe it with a swab on occasion. the barrel maybe every few years or if accuracy falls off.
Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. -- H.L. Mencken
The notion that a radical is one who hates his country is naïve and usually idiotic. He is, more likely, one who likes his country more than the rest of us, and is thus more disturbed than the rest of us when he sees it debauched. He is not a bad citizen turning to crime; he is a good citizen driven to despair.― H.L. Mencken
I clean very similar to what 375ruger describes. I wipe the dirt out if the action often. I do however run a wire brush in the barrel a few swipes and then an oiled and then a dry patch. Not a thorough cleaning just a get the dust and quell the rust job. I focus a bit on the chamber to ensure function.
Action, bolt, exterior... Pretty routinely. Bore... almost never, unless something gives me reason to.

Like the center fire stuff- I do it all when I get back from shooting since it might be several months before I take it out again.

I scrub the chamber and clean the action to keep feeding and ejection functioning. The barrel gets a couple wet patches and then a dry patch. Two more wet patches then dry patches till they come out clean. No scrubbing until accuracy falls off. I also only shoot plated in my NAA Mini.
Unless adverse weather, about once a year.
After use, clean action parts of reside, wipe down outside and let it ride as long as storage conditions are dry and cool.
When I was shooting smallbore, we cleaned our .22 target rifles once a year. That was taking action out of the stock. A really low level cleaning. With today's ammo, there's no need to abuse the bore with a cleaning rod anymore than is necessary.
After this deep clean, we'd have to fire a couple hundred rounds just to get the action settled back into it's accustomed bedding. Ah, the good old Model 52C./beagle
diplomacy is being able to say, "nice doggie" until you find a big rock.....
While the action is dry after shooting, or sittin, I blow out the action with compressed air, that'll get all the loose crud out. Then clean & lube the barrel & action.
OK one follow up question and then I'll hush. You guys every use lead solvent through the bore?

Twice a year if I’ve shot it or not. I like to be sure there is a good oil film inside and out. A quick oil swab after they’ve been shot.

Agree with above. Rimfire is notoriously dirty and the bullets are generally wax covered which gums up and attracts dirt. Semi autos need more attention to keep running.
My .22 revolvers get dry brushed out every so often, my bolt actions get cleaned with solvent maybe once every couple of years. My Nylon 66 has been cleaned maybe 3 times since 1972
Not to hijack but, I had to clean my Ruger MKIV target model after firing 500+ federal copper coated rounds.
I got gooey in the action and stated having FTFs.
I`m not sure how long it will go with wax coated ammo.
I have some old CCI standard velocity to shoot that should let me know....dale
No matter how often you clean a 22 rf, protect the muzzle end of the barrel against wearing the rifling out from the cleaning rod.

I pull a bore snake wet with Ed's Red through when I remember to do it. Don't have any semi-autos, so I don't have the buildup of crud in the action.
My collection of safe queens get a patch wet with RIG run through them once a year or so.
Only times I've ever had to really deep clean a chamber is after shooting shorts, or those awful primer-only Aguila Colibri rounds. Which I don't anymore. If I ever meet a .22 shooter I really dislike I'll give him all the Colibri I have left.
