I just looked up to see what plane was making the loud noise.....a shining polished aluminum B-29 just made a pass over my house. Pretty impressive airplane.

Not sure it was a B-29, there are only two still flying Fifi and Doc. I don't think either are scheduled to fly near South East Michigan this week. If it was you got lucky but I think it may have been the Yankee Lady out of Willow Run, a B-17. Still a very cool plane.
Definitely not a 17 nor a B-24 Liberator. I know they are not supposed to be here, nearest in Pennsylvania. The Nose and Narrow aspect wing are pretty distinctive, even though she was pretty high.
It was heading towards Willow Run, home of the Yankee Air Force.
It isn't unusual to see the B-17 nor the B-25 around here. This was different.
I was looking in my retirement journal, and made a notation on May 4th, 2015. I saw the only flying B-29 (at the time), "FIFI" high over Henderson, TN. I was stopped at a traffic intersection and got lucky, as in the right place at the right time. One of the few times in my life, when my jaw just dropped in astonishment.
I did some quick research, and found it was traveling to Washington D.C. for the 70th anniversary of V.E. day.

Nothing to worry about, because for once, I have the proper tool at hand. Looking for a little heat?.......Any questions?
Burt Gummer, Tremors 3
This went by my house recently(airport it is housed at is 17 miles away) http://www.fagenfighterswwiimuseum.o...I/scatIII.html
And his P-51's go over a LOT http://www.fagenfighterswwiimuseum.o.../aircraft.html
Can't mistake those old WWII fighter engines! So distinctive sounding compared to modern small planes.
Down this way we used to have Weeks Air Museum and they would fly their various warbirds around SoFla fairly often. They relocated further north after Hurricane Andrew in '92. From time to time there is a heritage flight of some type that will come around and offer some rides out of some of the local airports. There's something about hearing those engines roar. I can't recall ever seeing a B29, but I've seen the B24, B25, B17, and one of the few Mosquitoes.
We had an airshow at Homestead Air Base in 2016. We had some old warbirds, IIRC there was a B25 there. I guess I should have taken pics. I do have some pics of the P51. We have another airshow scheduled for later this year and hopefully there will be some cool birds.
- Have a good day and a better tomorrow...
FIFI made about ten flights over my house this weekend. WWII Weekend at the Reading airport
Fifi was in my area last weekend. I didn't get a chance to fly in her but maybe next time I will.
There is an air show in Gaylord Michigan on father's day. We went 2 years ago. They had the belly of a 29 all open for us to see. Then--it took off and did two low altitude passes. I think we are going again this year.
--never mind, only a b-17 this year (only! Hah!). They also have an albatross coming. That is one cool plane.
Doc went over my back yard a week or 2 ago. It's amazing to hear it coming, then look up and see a B-29.
I'm about 4 miles from the airport on the flight path. I always keep an ear open for that special sound.
The enemy of good is better.
I saw Fifi at the EAA show in Oshkosh a number of years ago. Very impressive piece of history!
