My old man got into the replica Colts & Rems back in the 60s. He shot up a storm with them, never at any distance 25-30yds. I bought him a ROA when they first came out. Once he shot it
he never messed around with the replicas again. If loaded properly it would shot right with a
Black Hawk out to 50yds. Other than throwing a occasional plinking shot he never set targets
past 50yds. As for me I never got the Black powder revolver bug, I was to lazy to want to clean
them. I would have to say that the ROA is the best percussion revolver ever built.
A guy sent me a cylinder from one of those and it was a boogerbear reaming it out to what he wanted but I got it to .453" by modifying two Manson reamers and then modifying a tapered reamer to take a live pilot to do the ball seating chamfer but I never heard from him how well it worked! Either he couldn't shoot worth a darn and it didn't help him none, or it worked and he just forgot about getting back to me. I figure if I blew it completely I would at least hear from him that it didn't work at all and I owed him a cylinder, but nothing so far!
At a hundred yards with a ROA? That's GOOD shooting Mr. Thumbcocker!! Oh yeah it is!

The Ruger Old Army is the best BP revolver ever made. You can dry fire them without hurting the nipples. They have their own history.
But I do like the originals and Italian copies, too.
Here's my ROA and some friends:
3rd Generation "Hickok" Colt .36.
Original Whitney .36
Original Savage and North .36
What kid of accuracy do you get with the originals Mr. Battis? Do they have gain twist barrels?

I at one time had ten of them. It was an addiction. I kept four of them including one of the dragoon models. they are a blast to shoot.
The ROA is, naturally, the most accurate. I'm pretty sure this original 1851 Colt .36 has gain twist - I'll check some of the others.
My ROA is at least as accurate if not more so than any of my other centerfire revolvers. Loaded properly they are ridiculous accurate.

Best BP revolver made. Although I am looking for a repro Walker.
I know that Pietta makes a match version of the 1858 Remington with a gain twist barrel and a hand tuned action. The folks a Dixie Gun works told me that one man in the Pietta factory tunes each one of them. I got to handle one it the trigger and action were just awesome.

I purchased a 7.5" blued ROA just before Christmas last year. There's been so much going on around here that I haven't even fired it yet, although it has been extensively fondled.
I'll get to it eventually.
I resemble that remark! PM coming your way.
