    Slugs for rifled barrel.

I have seen slugs with and with out rifling at the store. I cast most 45LC and 45acp, but my son asked if I could cast some slugs for him. I have never casted for shotguns and have very little info. I have a Pacific DL 250 qnd a Mec jr. Mostly just load shotgun for the cowboy guns the wife and I shoot.
Do smooth bore shotguns have to have a different slug then a rifled barrel?

Do not shoot the store bought "rifled" slugs out of a rifled barrel (Remington Sluggers, etc) or you will heavily lead the barrel. They're fine out of a cylinder or improved cylinder smoothbore. If that's what you shoot at the cowboy shoots lee 7/8 oz key drive mold is a good in-wad slug to 50 yds or so with moderate recoil. The high $$ store bought sabots or a variety of full bore casts slugs are out there, but big recoil.

Yes, usually. Most slug/sabots meant for a rifled barrel do not perform well if they aren't spinning. Most slugs for a smoothbore are either of the weight forward or attached wad design. Principle is similar to how a badmitten birdy stabilizes in flight.
