    Full coat importance

So, I bought some HF Matte Black not realizing it wouldn't work for shake and bake. I'm ordering some Super Durable Wet Black from allpowderpaints as this seems to have worked well for others using shake and bake. However, I'd rather not have this Matte Black go to waste.

    I'm PCng Lee 170 30-30 bullets.

Using wet tumble with lacquer thinner, I'm able to get a decently thin and even coat on the entire bullet except in the lube grooves. If I leave the lube grooves uncoated, will I have leading issues at rifle velocities? Or are they deep enough that the gases will bypass them?

Will it have any other negative effects?

You stated "except IN the lube grooves". If I under stand the geometry of boolet to barrel interface, as long as the outside diameter of the drive bands are coated you are good to go.

There is no benefit to having the PC in the grooves, nor detriment from not having it in there. The coating is only there as a friction fighter to protect the surfaces that rub against the barrel. Fire away!
    KE4GWE - - - - - - Colt 1860, it just feels right.
