    Newby questions on gas checks

I just bought my first gas check mold and have some questions. First, do I size the gas check with the bullet or just press it on after the bullet is sized and lubed. I got a sample pack of 22 cal gas checks for my Mihec 223 Heavy mold and the gas checks just fall off. I tried sizing them which does better than just pressing them on but they and still not tight.

I apologize if the info is already on the forum but I searched until my fingers hurt with no success.

I put the gas check on and size both the bullet and gas check at the same time.

I put em on before sizing and so I size and crimp at the same time as well. I do have a .358 boolit that has a smaller gas check shank and won't crimp really tight.... and so I put a small dot (think one #8 lead shot size) of red Locktite in the bottom each check and then seat em. I can put the adhesive in about a dozen, set the boolits in em, and then run em through the Lee sizer a dozen at a time and then set up another dozen checks. I wouldn't advise this for every boolit a fellow owns, but if you got one you really wanna shoot, it works.

I am gonna assume you got aluminum checks.

Normal installation of copper gas checks is to apply the Gas check, then size the boolit and GC together, crimping it on.

Aluminum Gas checks will sometimes work like copper checks...But if they are loose, an alternative method is to Size the boolit by itself (which will enlarge the GC shank), then install the Gas Check and size again. Apply the lube during the second cycle.
    Good Luck,
    Jon
