Lube guru... What's do you think.

Just got into casting recently and have only been casting for 45 acp. Haven't actually shot any yet because I live in ny and am towards the end of my pistol permit process. I'm antisapating shooting my 1911 as much as I shoot my 12 gauge and 30.06 so I'm stockpiling 45 acp cast boolits.

Even more recently I have made some boolit lube and I wanted to see what you guys thought about my recipe. In my own stupidity I didn't measure or weigh any ingreedients so I'm estimating here....

3 parts parafin (green apple candle wax, which smells delicious)
1 part bees wax
1 part (maybe even a little less) white lithium Greece
And a few green crayons crayons.

The lube is soft enough for me to push my finger into it and gets very soft and messy when I handle it with my fingers being 98 deg. And I can push the boolits out of the lube by the nose and fills the groves well.

I'm planing to only use the lube for 45 acp at low velocities and wanted to see what you guys thought of my lube recipe. I have heard that you can lube 45 acp with almost anything but wanted to see what you guys thought.

Looks okay but I wold add a small amount of Lanolin to make it sticky so it remains in the grooves.

3 parts paraffin may have it harder than you wish. Equal parts paraffin and Beeswax might make a bit stickier softer lube.

It's some dang sticky stuff as it is. I think it's because the candle wax that I used it fairly soft by itself. Even when I push the boolits out of the lube there are some (1 out of 15 or 20) that have a groove that isn't completely filled out, I can take a piece and push it into the space that is not completely filled out and do so with my fingers. It won't break up just moosh like hard clay.

your viscosity sounds fine.
heat the boolits before lubing that will help them hold the lube better.
i would have flipped the b-wax to parrafin ratio or at least went 60-40 b-wax to candle.
it's more temp stable that way.
if you mush it between your fingers and it goes almost to a liquid thats not enough viscosity.
it would blow out of a revolver and make a mess.
you might have it blow back into your pistols chamber and cause problems.
when working with a new lube i let it sit for a couple of weeks to see what it truly is.
then lube just a few and shoot them to see how it reacts under heat and pressure in a gun.

Man, that's really a sad thought, when a person has to wait for a permit to shoot his 45. Just seems unfathomable to me.

you want to try a very good lube for the 45, try Bens Red. I've use it exclusively, after trying several lubes.
Very easy to make, and for less than $30, you can make enough to lube thousands of boolits.

I know tell me about it. I have purchased it and the gun store has be holding it for me for about 5 months now. In ny they can't give it to me till I have the permit in hand. Unfortunately I have been waiting about 4 months to meet with the judge in my county about the permit. This particular judge wants to meet with every pistol permit that gets issued in his county. Hence the 4 months of back log. But I'm sure I will be getting it soon. They said on average 6 months from start to finish.

That's what I call communisim, socialism, dictatorship, ect ect. I go to the shop up the road, I see I buy, I fill out the stupid paperwork, I walk out with said gun.
Just unreal to even wait the 3 days for a handgun and have to have a FOID card just to buy like across the river in IL even.

Oh ya...thanks Alan. I just got a mind jog on why I moved east to the next state that borders IL. There was no gun crimes, and I felt very safe and secure

You need to give it a little "STICK" Lanolin 1 Tbsp per lb should do it..The Paraffin has or is kinda plastic dry (short on words to describe)
Or using more beeswax as stated may help some also.

Wait 6 months to buy a gun........I'd be writing my Representatives and everybody I could about that SHAM. I think the trouble is your judge is appointed and is not elected. No body to answer to.

Thanks for the table spoon per lb tip. I'll try to track some down. As far as the judge goes, he's one of the better ones in NY. Im a senior at clarkson university in norther ny and I belong to a gun club where the guys have told me in the county the gun club is in the judge won't even consider giving out permits for handguns.... Crazy if you ask me, not sure how true this is but I have heard this personally from 2 different people. The pistol range at the gun club is bar far the least used range. I have only ever seen a handful of people shooting on the pistol range, and never seen two people there at the same time. Be thankfull you don't live in ny. can't wait to get out.
