    New hunting buddy

    Sitting in my ground blind this evening and this guy came in for a visit. He was just passing through. Not much on conversation.

    Paper targets aren't your friends. They won't lie for you and they don't care if your feelings get hurt.

    I have a strong aversion to serpents, but that one is kind of pretty. Almost looks like he's made out of plastic!

    You'll know how good a buddy he is when he brings and shares a fresh rat with you.

    I would have been in need of a clean pair of skivvies...
    Rights, and Privileges, are not synonymous. We have the Right to Bear Arms. As soon as the Government mandates firearm registration, and permiting, then that Right becomes a Privilege, and may be taken away at our Master's discretion.

    I can sort of 'take 'em or leave 'em'
    However; If it was a rattle snake, I'd hope it was long enough to make a nice belt and matching hat band.

    I met this fat boy and his friend crossing the road on a hike today. Black rat snake. Not poisonous and good to have around

    I always gave them a pass. The two copperhead I saw in my yard weren't that lucky. Haven't seen any black snakes for awhile now which is fine as I have chickens.

    I've often seen snakes when hunting myself. As noted,, that snake is harmless & very good to have around. They enjoy rats, mice & such. However,, if you have chickens,, they do enjoy eggs & chicks. Relocate,, not kill is the best method.
    In my business, (Animal Damage Control,) I have folks who ASK me to BRING them black snakes for their property. They also kill & eat other snakes,, including the poisonous ones.

    For an education;

    Many people mis-identify a juvenile black snake. They are not born black,, nor do they turn all black until they get some size on them. Do an internet search for pictures of the juvies, to see what I mean. I get a lot of calls about "baby copperheads" in a home all the time.

    We have three families of Indigos on the place. I watch for them while mowing with the tractor. They stand up, head above the grass. I just stop the tractor and let them move off, great to have around, no mistaking them as they grow to 9 ft long and they do keep the bad actors down to a light growl. On occasion they get into the barn and scare you a bit laying in a corner, I shoo them out, they do like to hunt field mice in the barn. I just learned to look around as I go in to the barn.
