I do not admire the monarchy, but I did admire the Queen and the manner in which she held her position. She was always dignified, calm, and possessed an inner strength.

Right you are. I remember watching her coronation as a boy in B/W. She lived through all the tumultuous times of modern history, and still was able to impart solace to her people that was palpable. Just look at the "everyman" turn out, from mothers with baby's to old soldier's. Theres a lesson there.
“You should tell someone what you know. There should be a history, so that men can learn from it.

He smiled. “Men do not learn from history. Each generation believes itself brighter than the last, each believes it can survive the mistakes of the older ones. Each discovers each old thing and they throw up their hands and say ‘See! Look what I have found! Look upon what I know!’ And each believes it is something new.

I always am amused at the claim by some Americans about bowing down etc........utter nonsense ,any more than one of you would bow down to Obama or Trump...........the only net effect the royals would ever have on me is that some $25m a year is apparently donated by the Oz govt towards the upkeep of the Royals........I can tell you ,Id rather have the royals 5,000 miles away, than the "president " the anti royals here want ......not a voted for president ,but some disgusting politician given the position by the government of the day...........Typically,these kind of jobs are given as a way of getting some unwanted party leader to retire from politics.

Being someone who does not live in the UK, and never having lived under a monarchy, I don't think it's appropriate for me to tell them if it is good or not.
The way politics here are these days, it's more of a dictatorship, than a democracy.
When one party has all the power, how can there be a democracy????

She'll be missed. By more than just family and the Brits.
For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow. Ecclesiastes 1:18
He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool become servant to the wise of heart. Proverbs 11:29

    It never was.

Ours is a (mostly) two Party system forming a representative republic.

We are so much better than that. We had non stop 24/7 coverage for a year of looting, rioting, and “mostly” peaceful protest when a drug addict resisting arrest died.

One of our pilots was from MV, and when ever somebody asked him a 'what if' kind question he didn't want to answer,
he'd say, "We'll drive off that bridge when we get to it".

With all the coverage of her life there's some really cute stories coming out.

Years ago, the Queen would takes walks outside the palaces she stayed in.
One time her, and a security guy were walking along and they were approached by a pair of American tourists.
The tourist couple were happy to talk to some 'real British' people, but didn't recognize her.
They asked for directions to Buckingham Palace. So she gave them the directions...
They asked her if she'd ever met the Queen. She said, "No, but he has" pointing to the plain clothes security guard.

They directed the rest of their conversation to him, and asked him a few more questions.
They also asked for a picture of themselves with some 'real' British people.
The Queen agreed, and they got their pictures with her and the guard.

The Queen later was amused and wondered if anyone would recognize her when
the couple got home and showed Americans the pictures.

I am shocked at some of the comments.

The world would be a better place with another dozen leaders like her.

She deserves the respect and dignity as any person does.It is not for us to answer for her but her before her Lord. The books are balanced now. May she rest in peace.

    That’s hilarious!

Queen Elizabeth II and husband Prince Phillip were the real deal!

I am not so sure about King Charles though ....

I don't know how I'd react to finding out I'd asked some nice couple directions, then found out it was the Queen of England.

Would ya feel stupid for not recognizing her, (her picture is even on their money)
or just make up another story about how you got the pictures.?

She served her people, her country and her heritage the best she knew how.
Unlike the self serving rubbish we have in office here.
Wonder if people know she was a hunter too.
