    Anyone got a load for a MK I 455 Webley ?

    Hi Guys,

I have just picked up a MK I 455 Webley service revolver & just want to see if anyone had a load for it ?

I have a S&W 2nd model hand ejector in 455 but just wanted to see if any of you had a MKI load.

This revolver is in good condition and lock up is good

    Thanks Guys.

    Take care & stay safe

5.0 gr of Unique under a 260 gr Webley duplicate boolit from Matt's Bullets:

    Have used it for years.

Didn't the mark 1 use a black powder round that had a longer case? I load smokeless for numerous older black powder rounds but, I'd be very cautious about loading smokeless for a Mark 1.

Mk1 was NOT proved for smokeless powder!

Neither was the Trapdoor Springfield, but it hasn't stopped people from developing smokeless BP equivalent loads.

The smokeless Cordite MkI, II and III .455" cartridges were made for use in all Webley service revolvers in use at the time of adoption (MKI, II and III) as well as the .476" Enfield.

The 5.0 gr of Unique under a 255 or 260 gr boolit load has been around since at least the 1950s, and has been reported to develop ~11,000 psi in warm weather. To err on the side of caution, start with 4.5 to 4.6 gr with a 255 -260 gr boolit.

The 5 grain Unique load is based on the 0.87" long .455 Eley case. If using the shorter Fiocchi, Hornady or Starline Mk2 cases you had better reduce the load a full grain!

    Thank you for your replies

I am aware that the MKI was a black powder revolver but asked the question to see if anyone had a suitable load so thanks very much Outpost75 & Noah Zark

Years ago, a buddy had one, and more for the novelty than anything else, he loaded for it with black powder.
It was fun to shoot, and a lot handier than doing all the drill for reloading a cap & ball pistol.
