What was the thinest paper you have used for pp that worked out for you.
.0026" notebook paper. I tried cigarette paper years ago to make .308" boolits .312 and resize to .311, but there seems to be a balance between boolit size, groove depth, and final patched diameter that was exceeded by that and they leaded badly after many attempts. My thoughts are that the patch needs to prevent direct contact witht the barrel for most of the trip, at most letting the lands slit the patch slightly to aid muzzle jettison of the patch, and this requires a boolit slightly (but not too much) larger than the bore diameter, and a patched diameter slightly larger than groove dimension to keep the patch compressed tightly against the boolit so gas pressure doesn't leak around it and tear things up. Generally, I take the conventional advice for smokeless PP and come up with a way to make the boolit a thousandth or two over bore, and patch to a thousandth or two over groove diameter, which means paper ends up being .0025-.003" thick. Works for me.

Meade tracing paper from chinamart, use it for 30 cal in a 30-40 krag hiwall with the lee 200 gr, also use it with the same boolit in a 03a3, 45-70 405 fb lee in a 1874 sharps, lee 130 gr in my 7 m/m tcu bbl. It's 0.0015.
I have not had the time to patch my NOE 25 cal boolit yet but plan on trying it for a 257 roberts & 250 sav.
The 200 gr lee's are sized, wrapped then finale sized, the 405 gr drops small enough I wrap as cast to finale size. I'm getting instant coneffti on firing with NO leading in any off these.
I like it as it wraps well & dries very tight. I roll it on an old case lube pad if I need to finale size. I have used it on some other calibers but am still in the "working on it" stage.

I Have tried some of the gift wrapping tissue paper and it seems fairly strong. I have some loaded and ready to go in a 303 British but have yet to try them.
9# onion skin paper. 25% cotton .0025". Two wraps around a .448" pure lead rifle bullet. Measures between .456" and .457" when dry. This bullet is used for a smokeless powder load in my Marlin 1895 XLR 45/70 @ 1262fps.
I used Meade with my .30s but they were too thin in the .303. I needed .314 finished and ended up with .3135. Lousey groups. Notebook paper gave me .317 which sized very easily to .314. I now use notebook paper rather than Meade. I still have the original sheaf I got.
..............I believe the thinnest commonly used paper is either dress pattern paper and cigarette paper. Never tried the later but the pattern paper is just a tad over .0015" .

When I started patching years ago, the only available guidance was Phil Sharpe's book.
I was able to get a goodly quantity of 100% rag bond in 0.0015 called 9 pound bond and 0.0025 called 11 pound bond. I could not get the yet thicker bond Sharpe recommended as the thickest suitable for patching in any quantity for using regularly. .
I made do noting that water wetted 100 % rag bond shrunk on drying and stuck to itself so tightly that it was nearly inseperable if done in a double or triple wrap. Measurements indicated the .0015 went to .0009. About three years ago here I mailed out about 35 copies of the proper pages in Sharpe"s book to those covering postage and zeroxing.
There is a good bit of information in his book, I think the best. Try to get it on interlibrary loan.

The thinnest paper I've tried was cig paper. I can't find any left over so I can't measure its thickness. The paper I now use is .0026" (0.066mm).

How did that cig. paper work out for you?
I didn't have any long range accuracy although the boolits made perfectly round holes. There was no bore leading - in fact the bore got real shiny and clean. The cig paper did not fail in the bore. It was my patching that did not work. I lubed the patched boolit with molten Alox. Bad idea. It 'glues' the patch to the boolit.
Cig paper is quite tricky to patch wet but is do-able. It's the tail twisting that takes a bit of practice.

Thanks for the information, I may give it a try at some of the lower FPS loads in the 45/70
I use cig papers. They give me a 7 thou 4x wet wrapped dried diameter on a 302 core.
ie: 1 thou over bore in mine.
Wrapped and seated to engrave the patch on the lead grooves.
About 1/2 to 3/4 patch.
I get around 1 1/2" horizontal line at 100 yrds with the 4 th or fifth a flyer.
