Well, it looks like the crown is over-rated. Have a look at what this guy did. https://rifleshooter.com/2018/03/do-rifle-crowns-matter-does-a-crown-effect-accuracy/ Well, I'll do that test on the Toz 17 just the same. But seems that we can...

What target shooters do is use target bullets with perfectly symmetrical and consistent bullet bases and trailing edges. Tests have been done on bullet noses, damaging them in different ways. Nose damage had little to no effect. But damage to...

That's interesting. My thinking is that the crown is a potential variable that is easily eliminated and that the squared recessed crown is the easiest to get square to the bore. One reads that testing has shown the 11 degree crown to be the most...

I'm still steeply falling down that rabbit hole! And enjoying it! I have a few tricks up my sleeve still. I've done some bedding on this rifle and it seems like I should leave that alone for now but ultimately, this rifle is...

I know all about reading and thinking about something else! I don't read much actually. On group wondering, I did see it to a small degree but satisfied that the gun had settled, I ventured to zero the scope, moving the POI to the left. Well,...

I might have an idea. Went to the range today and gave the 510 a workout. Along the way a cartridge jammed skew on the bolt face and got damaged. I freed it and fed it into the chamber but with some difficulty. The shot went off to the left. ...

I had an interesting incident with the 510 today. I had used the 511 bolt because its own bolt is a bit tight on closing. It was having feeding jambs in which the cartridge would clip onto the bolt face skew requiring the bolt removal to unclip. ...

I found these comments on the chamfered crown on Sniper Hide. I'm not sure that what is happening with you is crown related but for me, I would sure like to eliminate that possibility. Maybe it would be worth looking into?

My eyes keep glancing over at target # 2. Do you remember the scene in Planet of the Apes where Charlton Heston as George Taylor finds a plant and plucks it out and says; "Where there is one, there will be another and another and another"? That...

Is that a 45 degree crown I'm seeing? Like this? This is the type of crown I prefer. I have only done square crowns because of the difficulty in lining up the bore and a square crown will always be square to the bore.

Looking at that Official 300 group that doesn't look at all impressive, I just noticed something. That's a ten shot group. Three of the ten are 'outliers'. I do not know what the shot sequences were but maybe those three outliers were the first...

I noted on this string of targets that when changing from Official 300 to Geco match, there were no first shot flyers or bore seasoning shots. When I saw this I thought about your 'wax routine'. Official has what looks like a thick coating...

It's funny - I didn't notice the smell on Sunday. Maybe the wind direction. I have noticed it before though and with Aguila ammo which I'm told is Eley primed. Curious. I think any fired primer or burned powder is healthy.

Well this guy said SK shoots real well in his rifle and the stuff is cheap and it's available. I'm hesitant to just buy 500 rnds but on the other hand I have several rifles that it might work in. My 510 seems to like several different ammos and so...

Well unless I can find a hollow nose ammo that shoots OK in the Mauser I'll just shoot it on the range. The Mauser works perfectly fine as a single shot although one has to be careful in laying the round on the magazine or it can tilt and not feed....

My late dad's 22 Mauser has been producing groups petty much like your Brno. Then with one ammo it shot a decent group, that being Eley Club. I now have a few reasonable groups. Not great but good enough to bag a rabbit out to 75yds. So I'm...

OS, I've posted about this on my 510 thread but fitting a scope on my 510 has been a success in that I now know what the rifle can do plus what I can do wrong. That second part you already have covered with your scoped rifle but for me it was...

Jniedbalski, The hood normally stays on. It is hard to get off. I only took it off for the photo. The front blade is so thin I wouldn't risk damaging it. But you are right, I can see and aim much better without the hood. I suppose what I should...

I must say, that sweet rifle has such a smooth action. It must be kept oiled though or it goes sticky. The bolt open cocking is so effortless it can be down with a flick with the back of the finger, followed by a rearward flick to eject the spent...

I have some Aguila Super Extra standard velocity, rated at 1130 fps. It shot OK in my dad's Mauser this morning at 25m. My other rifles don't like it too much. 1130 fps is in the upper transonic zone so it's transonic all the way to the target. ...

Solder works just fine but is more effort. It does require a steel or brass base though. Steel is handy because it can be fabricated. Like when one needs to build a bridge for a split receiver. Like this one. This was my first effort. The...
