    Homemade Brass Cleaner

I know I have seen recipes on here somewhere (not for sure in what area or how long ago). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mike

I just read about this two weeks ago, and had to try it:

Found at 99 cent or $1 store :

"LA's Totally Awesome All Purpose Cleaner
Rust, Lime, Calcium remover for tiled walls, bathrooms, and showers.

The active ingredient is citric acid. It looks, smells and acts exactly like the Birchwood Casey Liquid Cartridge Case Cleaner, only a lot cheaper!

Pour enough in a blastic container (I use a cut down gallon bleach bottle) to cover the cases. Leave in solution for 15 minutes, drain, rinse, and set cartridges out to dry.

The stuff is reusable, so it gets pouned into an intact empty bleach jug for storage.

Here is where the recipes are:
    http://www.frfrogspad.com/homemade.htm#Solutions

I use a bucket and stir with a stick for 15 minutes, The dirtiest range brass will clean-up inside and out. It will not polish but this mix will get off all dirt, carbonization and oxidation.. You will have to rinse the slimey snot out of them when you are done but these formulas work great.

P.S. scroll up to the top of this page to access many other useful formulas for the reloader/shooter.

    Lemi Shine????
It's the big rage on the AR15 web site.
They use it to tumble with stainless media, but I'm thinking it would work alone.

the citric acid is the way to go.
i make mine with lemishine and lemon juice, and as hot as i can stick my hands in water.
powdered citric acid is found at beer and wine making stores for about 2 bucks for 2 ounces.
it gets the gunk off and out of the brass.
i follow up with the tumbler and if i want super shiney i add some nu- finish.
i usually stop at the tumbler.
the stainless steel pins makes the brass look better than new but it's pretty expensive.

Is citric acid safe for use in an ultrasonic cleaner?

Vinegar and water for the ultrasonic cleaner, backed by Birchwood Casey's Brass cleaner, hot water, distrilled water and cases are squeaky clean and like new.

    I should think so!
Citric acid is the main ingredient in most pop drinks, and cause no ill effect to the bottle.

Lemishine works well and is safe for you and the brass.

    John Travler :

Yep , you're right , that solution will certainly clean brass .

My only concern is your comment of " The active ingredient is citric acid."

That was not written on the bottle I purchased. If you don't mind me asking,
where did you get that information from ?

I tried the Lemi-Shine and it does work with my brass looking newer than new. I used it in my Thumblers Tumbler Model B with ceramic media which will clean my BP cases by itself. The addition of a 1/2 teaspoon made them super bright inside and out.
