When did Marlin change from the Model 1894 to the Model 94?

I think that alot of people are just referring to the 1894 as the model ninety four because Winchesters are no longer being made. There has never been a change in Marlins model designations from 1894 to '94 in any of their literature.

New to me old Marlin, No markings on Barrel, Model 94 on tang and serial number 47X. It is a 38-40 short Rifle.

Definitely and old Marlin. What patent dates do you have on the barrel? Only old Marlin that I have seen with a two digit model number was a '93.

There is nothing on the Barrel.

I have a M94 in 32-20 that was made in 1911, so it was before that date.

Last Patent date on the barrell is 1893.

I THINK they changed for 1894 to 94 and 1893 to 93 around 1906.
