Hey guys we all enjoy looking at the pictures of everyone's bullets but all the threads seem to start filling with comments and ?
So I am starting this thread for Pictures only comments in the post of the picture is fine such as (These bullets are 30 cal lyman mold number 3133112 coated with HF red with what method)
That way you can scroll down the gallery of pictures just enjoying the fine art work.
Here is a example
http://http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg31/Ricky1965/powder%20coating/P7290103_zpsfce5812b.jpg
These are 40 cal I used a mehic 170 mold coated with several powders I picked up from a fellow that PC for a living and gave me his leftovers. The great looking young girl modeling ok playing is one of my grandkids. I plan on loading these up in my 40s and my sons new 10mm when he gets a barrel. They were cast with WWs, oh almost forgot I sprayed them sitting on a gig I made using plywood covered in alum siding with nails shot with my trim gun.
Yes that's a lot of info but may answer a lot of peoples ? you do not have to put any details but they are always nice for those who are just getting started or others looking at new ways to do it. If you see a pic that you have a ? about PM the poster of that pic

ALL POST WITH OUT A PIC OF A PC BULLET WILL BE REMOVED

OK THIS IS NOW A STICKY AND IT SHOULD BE UNDERSTOOD THAT ALL POST WITHOUT NEW PICTURES WILL BE DELETED THANKS TO ALL FOR POSTING AND ITS LOOKING GOOD. AVOID POSTING WITHOUT PICTURES ANY ? OR COMMENTS CAN BE SENT TO THE POSTER .

Lets see how this works

If the poster is getting a lot of PMs he or she may want to edit his Post adding the info that is requested. Also if you can post the pic so its shows without a link would be great thanks.

This was my first attempt. Tin foil was a bad idea as the bullets stuck to it. 2nd attempt use a silicon baking pan with worked well.
I'll try them in my 300 Blackout this weekend.115550
I just dumped some powder into a dish and set it on my tumbler, shook it around and set it back a few times then baked them for 15 min @ 400°

Here's an uncoated one, a coated one, and a 208 grn A-max for comparison.

Just got some new powder in from powder-by-the-pound last night. These were tumble coated by placing bare boolits inside a quart ziplock freezer bag, then a teaspoon of the HD orange and the liquid black , tumbling in a #5 bowl and twirling it for about 5 minutes. Coverage was very good, then baked @ 400 for 15 minutes.

Those are a mihec 45 acp 200 RNFP round HP and Penta point.

Notice my solution to boolits sliding while loading into the oven. That's ½ inch hardware mesh,(some call it chicken wire), under the no-stick foil. Pushing down with each boolit creates a dent in the foil that the boolit then rests in.

I was real happy with the coverage. Before that I had used the airsoft in with the boolits in both the ziplock bowls, AND in my FA tumbler. I never got the kind o f coverage I saw last night, but that was HF red, some have had problems with as I have also. PBTP was fast, 3 days even with UPS ground.'

More pics when I get some loaded---.

Congrats!! :drinks:

I'll suggest removing that diffuser alltogether, you don't have any reason to spread out the spray. Reduce the air pressure just to where it still pumps powder and get as close as possible without sparking.

And if you want you can reduce the flash by creating little pedestals for the boolits to sit on. Beagle333 posted lotso pics several months ago. Basically it's JB Welding 6-32 nuts to the baking pan about 1" spacing. Then cover with the non-stick and mash down, starting in the center. Boolits sprayed and baked fall off with no flashing. I have to use new foil every time but some folks get 2-3 cycles before changing it. I'm starting to think the flat black won't flash as much as the glossies, dunno, I don't use it.

Doesn't baking the brass mess up the annealing/tempering/heat treating?

That's a logical concern, and it's been asked by a couple others. I found a great article that explains what happens in the annealing of brass but cutting to the bottom line- brass won't start re-arranging its molecules until it hits a bit over 700F. And that to prevent ever getting close, don't exceed 450F. Should be ok.

That was my first whack at PCing a case. I didn't get powder on the top because of how I was keeping powder from getting inside. Ever since then they've all been fine with no chipping or anything from going through all four dies. I shot several and the cases looked same as fresh from the oven.

I can see the nuts on top of the foil getting coated and not working twice. I tried to make some rings to hold my longer heavies that tip over to easy but after one use the ground was lost. Not at contact on the bullet but on the ring hanging on the metal rod.

I did make one using sheetrock nail that are more like a large tack and did them the same way but after the build up of powder it failed me after several trips to the oven.

I filled up my convection PC cooker with pinks Thursday night. First picture is oven sitting on the back of my quad outside the walk in basement slider. Second is trays after the cook in my basement work room. My three trays will hold 714 projectiles with 3/4" spacing. I made a loading jig out of a piece of 1 X 12 pine, into which I load boolits nose down then I put the tray on upside down, flip over, PC and cook.

Outside of being totally cool, Is there and real advantage to powder coating boolits?

This should be one of the questions in the FAQ....
But there's too many pages to read in the whole powdercoating section to find all the reasons....:coffeecom.... so here goes my try at it:
My whole purpose for PC was to be able to shoot some nice soft lead in pistols faster without leading than before. And range lead is cheaper to buy and easier to find than wheel weights. It lets you avoid having to handle sticky boolits, it doesn't gum up your loading dies; it provides really long term storage without oxidation of your boolits, or the lube drying/cracking or melting out of the lube grooves; it makes pretty boolits (unlimited colors), it allows you to color code your loads if you want to separate hot from plinkers, etc.; it doesn't smoke when you shoot it (the indoor shooters like that), and it is much cheaper than any used lubesizer you will ever find.
It also lets you store loaded boolits without any fear of long term powder contamination from lube and it allows you to shoot gas check boolits a little faster without the check than you could shoot them with lube. And within limits, it also sizes up boolits that may be just a hair too small.... making some Lyman and Ideal molds give people the size boolit they were looking for, without having exactly the perfect alloy and the perfect temp for both mold and lead every time they cast.

Other than that... it is not a gas check. It does not protect the boolit from gas cutting. It does not improve velocity, obturation or expansion (it does not keep hollow points from expanding normally). There is much debate about how it affects accuracy, either good or bad. That seems to be up to the individual.

Since this is a pic thread, here's a pic of some .45's that I tumbled in Smoke's green. It's fast, it's easy, it's cheap, and they leave the gun and dies clean as new when you're done!
http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt214/shutupandjump/PowderCoating/sized002a_zpsaf8ad3e7.jpg

And here's some Hornady swaged .45 bullets that I tumbled in HF red..... they aren't sticky, they load up clean and shoot great.

The gas check material is .006 thick aluminum roof flashing.

There are 500 bullets per tub.

I was going for the zombie look and sprayed some with Smoke's green and then sprayed lightly with HF red straight down from the top. They covered well during spraying and all had red noses, but it faded into the green when curing. I guess I should mebbe cure the green, then spray over with HF red and cure again. I'm not unhappy with the look but they were more red on top and not at all splotchy like now.

Well, I finally finished a practice run and an final with red/black mixed... came out maroon.
Used foil over washers and had a lot of flash to trimat the top of the gac check seat ridge, even before sizing/check seating.
Like the results, but really need to eleminate flash... recommendations?

This is Smoke's red and blue. Sprayed with a Harbor Freight gun while setting on top of 45ACP cases. The mouth of the cases were reduced in size just enough to firmly hold the bullets. The cases were pop-riveted to a piece of aluminum and a 44mag. sizing die was used to reduce the case mouth. The bullets passed the smash test with flying colors. The mold is from Accurate. One cavity is 460/405v and the other is 460/405vg.

And, I tested some used (reclaimed) powder from a powdercoating shop. It makes a very nice color, but when it starts to flow, it flows just a little more than I like. I'll have to test it a little more. But.... it does have full coverage, feels super slippery and might shoot great.

The dark splotches are not thin areas in the coating. The powder was a mix of mostly red from Eastwood and orange from Powder by the Pound. Some weird things happening, but the 2 colors did not like to mix. The surface is slick and does not flake off from the smash test.

A couple of two-color examples, red is ASBB method and blue is bag-in-a-bowl method. Chili Pepper Red and Ocean Blue by TCI Powdercoatings, bought from a local powdercoating shop. Coated with main color, placed on baking sheet then sprinkled with black prior to baking...There's some crud in with the red ones, it's some black 'oversprinkle' which flaked off of the parchment paper. It cleans right up when run through the sizing die.

135034A tribute to James Bond...Or maybe Mr. Scaramanga. Golden Boolits! Transparent Gold from Prismatic...this is hard to capture perfectly, lighting-wise. They recommend it as a topcoat over a chrome powdercoat. By itself it has a golden hue but looks more like a really shiny coat of Lee Liquid Alox in most light. Loaded into a brass case it looks okay, would be better in a nickel case for a two-tone look.

Tried some of Smoke's colors today, and was very pleased! Traffic Orange, Pink (Telemagenta), Traffic White and Clear.
Here's before and after; the clear goes on looking white, and you can see the coverage...Clear is in the foreground. Oh, the blotches are my fault...Bumped the tray prior to baking and knocked some powder off re-setting the boolits upright again.
135887135888

Now, for those who haven't used clear before, it does a pretty good job, but it does take a little away from the 'shininess' of freshly cast boolits. Here's a comparison, clear PC on the left and uncoated (as cast) on the right.

Had some candy purple which just wouldn't coat well with dry tumble. So I experimented with two batches, adding a pinch of clear to one and a pinch of mirror black to the other. My thinking is that since those coat well, they'd help the purple adhere better. Purple & clear is on the left, purple & black on the right. It's not perfect but gets the job done.

The darker ones have a poor coating of red that didn't take very well. This is the first batch I've baked on a silicone mat. So far it's working pretty well as none of them stuck to it but time will tell if it lasts.

Did a few more baking sessions and the mat is still just fine. The little bit of powder that bumps off them sticks to the bottom of the next batch. It lightly sticks to the mat but peels right off.

That is good to hear Bob. May be worth buying one but hoping to score a free one.

The blue bullets I posted previously are from the Miha mold mentioned but the red/black ones are from a converted Lee mold from Hollowpointmold.com. It was about a hundred bucks which isn't cheap but not as much as most.

I made a few more pounds of them last night. For some reason the lighting is making them look different but they are the same color as previously posted. Mixed in are the last of the flat black ones which I no longer make.

http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x333/Maximumbob54/Reloading%20and%20Casting/IMG_20150502_084336651_zpszqrqnecp.jpg (http://s1176.photobucket.com/user/Maximumbob54/media/Reloading%20and%20Casting/IMG_20150502_084336651_zpszqrqnecp.jpg.html)

I baked some of them on the hex nuts some the bases aren't coated and I don't think I will do that anymore at least with HP bullets. Casting HP's and setting them on the sheet of screws is just too easy. They don't tip and slide around, you don't get flashing build up, and I don't have to keep replacing foil. I'm actually casting more HP's for that reason alone and may try to only buy HP molds from here on out just because they are easier to coat.

And the link to the spray gun is the exact model I bought. Super easy and I am thinking of buying a second one just in case I break mine. Extra cups seem to only be available now on eBay for way too much. So go easy on your cup if you buy one. Don't get all ham fisted and I bet it lasts fine though.

I didn't cast anything this weekend, but I did coat a few. I am behind on my coating.... I got the bulk done, but still have about 600 more to go.

I made a bunch of these for the H&R 30-30. This is approximately 1/4 Smoke's pink with 3/4 HF red.

Left is same color as above. The ones on right are more of Smoke's SD Copper, orange/brown, and yellow/green all mixed. I just like that color.

I did a little shooting on Saturday with .300 blackout subsonics. Since I was the only one there, I went and did a little mining after the cease fire time.

I know I had a couple that either grazed the plate or hit the chain holding the plate up. I'm thinking this is one. It was also found amidst a pretty solid clump of bullets/boolits in the sand backstop, so that could explain some of the damage too.

Easiest stuff to powdercoat EVER. Just toss them in a tub with a spoon of Smoke's PC powder and swirl them around - no need for airsoft BB's, they tumble coat perfectly well on their own.

Thanks to the thousands of comments from many of you guys on this forum, I took the plunge and tried powder coating my own this past weekend. It went pretty well! Easier than i thought it would be... there's absolutely no need to stay on the fence about doing this, for those of you who are. I thought the whole process was easy as pie.

I'll post more pics in a sec, I tried a couple tumbling methods. These are Mihec 452-200 hollow points, which I tumbled in a vibratory tumbler... about 1 quart of bullets and some HF Red powder (some blue got in there too, tried to tumble some blue ones in a ziplock bag in a smaller batch and the ziplock gave out lol).

I found that I could put about a quart container of bullets in my harbor freight tumbler with some powder... didn't measure the amount but I'd bet on it being around 3-4 tablespoons which was more than enough. No bb's, just bullets and powder in the tumbler, per a youtube video I'd watched. Then I'd let it go 10-20 minutes vibrating in the vibratory tumbler while I did other stuff. Dump the bullets into a colander after that, shake and sift the big batch of bullets to separate from excess powder... the bullets stayed very well coated, and the powder went back into the tumbler.

I'd then put the colander on my bench, and use bent tweezers to pick the bullets out by their hollow point and nose, placed individually onto baking trays. I found that I could load a tray of 150-200 in about 10 minutes no problem. So every 10 minutes a new tray was going in for a 20 minute bake, and after I got going every 10 minutes a tray was coming out as well. I baked for 20 minutes at 400F per the instructions on the HF Red container.

They came out pretty well I think. Definitely not ESPC, and not quite as pretty as some of you guys' results, but I bet they'll size and shoot just fine.

I don't really know, Dave. I believe they are some sort of Candy Apple Red from PowderBuyThePound. When I first started coating (before I found Smoke's great powders), I bought several different powders from guys on fleabay who were powdercoating lug nuts for ATV's and motorcycles. I wrote to the guys and they sold me small 1/4 lb packets of their powders to test, and this red was just one of those samples that I bought. I asked this one guy several times and even had some other folks ask him and he would never confirm nor deny that it was PowderBuyThePound red that he was using. The candy apple color doesn't bake at 400° though, it'll smoke and scorch and get brittle. It does well at 360-370° though and feels like a nice smooth rubber coated boolit after it cures. It sizes very easily too. But I don't have any more and only coated about 150 boolits with that sample that I got.

I pretty much coated two batches of those that you show, and these (using fender washer method. pic is before gas checks were put on), and then I ran out.

Overkill! I put PB gas checks on the boolits before I sized and then decided to ESPC them. I can only guess that the paint on the cola cans kept it from transferring a great spark, as mine was very weak and the nose is beautiful but it didn't stick to the driving bands very well at all. So I just decided to run em through the luber, just to make sure this batch was shootable. And the results look kinda cool, but it isn't recommended, as it is double the work for the same boolit.

http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt214/shutupandjump/PowderCoating/lubed%20004_zpsizsbortz.jpg

Oh... and that's my famous Tiger Stripe lube. ;-) That's what you get when you change the lube in the sizer without melting the previous lube out first. The first hundred or so boolits are striped until the new lube fills all the channels.

Bloody or rusty??? Steampunk boolits???

Spray coat of HF flat black and an ASBB dry tumble of HF red to cover what I missed on the first coat. The process works really well and they shoot great. My only beef is that the BB's get stuck in the hollow points and they're a pain to pick out.....

Lyman 462560 540Gr.
Mihec 460-122 sized to .452 350Gr. (run though a .457 then a .452 with lots of spray lube....)
Mihec 45-PB "Ruger only" 300Gr.
Mihec 462 Hammer sized to .452 300Gr. (again with a .457 followed by a .452)
Lee GB 45 300Gr.

Just got my order from Smoke today. First time powder coating with ASBB method and so simple to do. Thanks Smoke! Will be placing a follow up order soon for more colors as the lady wants her purple boolits for her 9mm AR pistol.

154308For all those who like the 7.62 x 39 as much as I do, Lee's 155 gr, 160 gr. and 185 gr. boolits in Smoke's yellow green. ASBBDT.

I put the gas checks on after the shake and bake using the Lee push through sizer. I really like the aluminum checks over the copper checks when putting on over the pc, as they seem much easier.

Between me and my wife we shoot around 2000 40 Caliber bullets every three months, the pictures below are of the first bullets made for 2016.

The two pans contain approximately 3000 bullets ready to load.

The bullets are 180 grain, cast with Master Caster, powder coated with .008 roof flashing gas checks installed.

Cast, powder coated and gas checked these bullets over the Thanksgivings holiday.

I also make the gas checks from a gas check maker I also made on my lathe.

Started all of this to save money, funny seem to just shoot more now and spend more money.

Some Lee 429-240 round nosers that cast about 260g with range lead. Super durable wet black from powder by the pound in some new brass, along side my newly acquired SW629 Classic 8-3/8" :bigsmyl2:
