Some more of Smoke's powder, Signal Blue and Jet Black. I like to call these "Blue Whistler's" (the old timers name for buckshot) and "Black Betty's". ASBBDT has been working great for me. (Have used Smoke's powder exclusively.) PC'ed on rainy days, and no problem, PC'ed boolits that were cold, setting on my outside porch at 40 degrees, no problem. What I found is you have to really shake and spin the boolits. Don't be afraid to hurt them. If I go easy on the shaking, the coating sucks.

Holding the cool whip container vertical and making large circular motions while slowly rotating the container, then do the up and down bump 5 or 6 times, and then maybe a horizontal circular motion 1 or twice and the boolits are coated.
Give then boolits some rock and roll and high speed spins, they don't feel a thing. Give them a 30 second fast ride!

Just for curiousity I tried two coats to see the results. I have to say this is BAD. No need for it in the first place, and the build up of PC coating makes pushing a double coated boolit through the sizer nearly impossible. Double coating a boolit and trying to size could damage sizing equipment, just my opinion.

I have just finished another batch. The old 401 boolits were cast of a softer alloy so I melted them all down. The 30 Cal boolits were sized down too small so I cast another batch. The 30 Cal is NOE310 164 all from the GC side of the mold. The 40 is Lee 401 145 SWC. These are done in Smoke's Signal Blue powder.

I know this is kindergarten level stuff to most of you, but I'm proud of them! Lee tumble lube .452 230 grain truncated cones in Harbor Freight red and black, flanked by Lee tumble lube truncated cone .357 125 grain in HF black on the ends. I coated a couple thousand of the .357 in red but haven't loaded them yet. We're using the HF powder coat gun with what I think are great results!

First foray into PC. First thing I didn't read I just bought some stuff and failed miserably LOL. Matte Black HF, #1 container, and colt transparent green BB. So, after wasting that money, I read grabbed a #5 container, bought some different bbs from Academy (that have worked for me), and got some HF red. The results are pretty durn good for my first success. I look forward to perfecting the shake and bake method. Have an awesome night all and these pics are amazing.

It was "rainy-day- session" and we had a substitute teacher. We couldn't go out for recess so we stayed indoors and did arts 'n' crafts... yay! I made a bunch of .50 caliber pumpkins and thumpers. Then I specialty powder coated some in forest green. That way, popping them off in the woods, the targets wouldn't see them coming. Then I did a bunch in tan for use on desert targets. Of course I did a **** load in silver for when the vampires attack!

Aggies, Catseyes, Swirlies, Puries, Steelies, Peewees and Boulders... yup I had 'em all. Like most
kids I kept my treasure in an old King Edward's cigar box. I got the box from Mr. Gerard at Gerard's
Liquor Store on the corner of Arbor Vitae and Freeman Ave. Freeman Avenue was renamed La
Cienega Blvd. and relocated way up past La Brea when they put in that new San Diego Freeway.
Anyway, we used to play "keepsies" and my collection grew and shrank but mostly shrank, thanks to
the neighbor boys Michael Munson and Butch Kunz. What really devastated my diminishing hoard
was when I played at school against the likes of Fred Chase, John Conway and the infamous Leon
Fredrickson! I knew my luck had to change before I'd lost 'em all. Alas, such was not my fate, thanks
to the good nuns at St. John Chrysostom, who intended on protecting us from evil, outlawed.. yes
outlawed all marble games in the school yard because it was... gambling! My hopes dashed, treasure
lost but soul saved... thank you. But wait! Almost sixty years later my treasured aggies, catseyes and
swirlies have serendipitously returned in the form of my hand cast, powder coated, swirl dipped .45
caliber beauties! I am absolutely amazed at these little gems. They're almost too pretty to shoot.
However, in all fairness, I sure don't want to disappoint our many empty soup cans proudly standing
in line waiting to be bullseyed in technicolor! Leon Fredrickson... eat your heart out.

Sunday is NASCAR Sprint Cup Day. I've always been fascinated by the bright shiny paint jobs and
wild color schemes.

It's as if I'm watching some frantic rainbow arcing across a blacktop oval.

http://i552.photobucket.com/albums/jj358/Team_Termath/Snapshots/Boolits/RetroFlames01.jpg

Of course I have to admit the the real draw is the noise, the smoke and the flames.

http://i552.photobucket.com/albums/jj358/Team_Termath/Snapshots/Boolits/RetroFlames02.jpg

As a kid I always liked the flames especially those articulated on hot rods.

http://i552.photobucket.com/albums/jj358/Team_Termath/Snapshots/Boolits/RetroFlames03.jpg

I guess that's what attracts me to the retro fire red flames blazing the deep yellow of the Pennzoil 22 car.

http://i552.photobucket.com/albums/jj358/Team_Termath/Snapshots/Boolits/RetroFlames04.jpg

But Sunday is also Shootin' Day when Cyndi and I go plinkin'. That's a real dilemma.

All the bullets were first powder coated with the shake-n-bake method. The rainbow marbles were produce by floating several colors of Krylon spray enamel on luke warm water. Then the paint was gently swirled and the bullets slowly submerged through the enamel. After air drying the enameled bullets were baked again at 200°F for 10 minutes to produce a hard finish.

http://i552.photobucket.com/albums/jj358/Team_Termath/Snapshots/Boolits/Marbles4.jpg

After shank-n-bake powder coating the bullets they were ready for their retro flames. Now the fun begins and you've got to be quick! First, several colors of nail polish were carefully floated on top of a full shot glass of luke warm water. Then the flame design was "stroked" through the colors with a toothpick. Finally the bullet was slowly submerged through the floating design and held under while the residual color was cleaned from the surface before removing the bullet from the glass. These are then set to dry. The lacquer nail polish dries hard enough to not require oven tempering.

http://i552.photobucket.com/albums/jj358/Team_Termath/Snapshots/Boolits/RetroFlames06.jpg

I prefer round nose bullets for these paint jobs and am waiting on some new .357 & 9mm molds. I'll post step-by-step snaps then.

1st attempt at PC. The 45 ACP is from an RCBS 200 GR. SWC mold using HF Red. I used the tub and swirl method with bb's. - The 9 MM is from a Mihec 359125 HP mold. Using Smoke's Bacon Grease color. I used an old Lyman vibratory tumbler with bb's and PC paint. Let it run for about 30 minutes, baked in an old laboratory oven that I procured from a school district auction for 25 minutes at 400 degrees.

The HF red seem's to go on thick. The boolit dropped from mold at .454, after PC and baking it mic'd at .459, after sizing with a Lee push through it went back down to .452 with little or no scrapping.

Smoke's powder was a dream to work with. Went on with just the right amount of coverage. Boolit dropped from mold at .359 and sized to .356 with Lee push through sizer with no issues at all.

Both castings were done with range lead ingots with tin added.

My first attempt at powder coating. Well my second my first batch I left the rack up too high and melted all my bullets LOL.

They turned out cool. Check out the video on link below. The powder coat added 2 grains to the over all weight of the bullet.

The next ones will get loaded in nickle plated brass and look even better.

168129Put together this little fixture (Newtire New Model Almost Perfect) to hold the bolits upright for baking. Lubed boolits for illustration purposes only. It worked great except the boolits stuck to the bottom. These little plates that I bought at the hardware store had a convenient hole to knock them loose under the boolit though and it was no trouble getting them loose.

Rockshooter came over & showed me how easy it was to do the whole powder coat & explained the principle of different electrostatic charges in the differeent types of plastic & then it all made more sense. No reason to go out & buy a bunch of sprayer equipment & try to find room for that much more stuff in my garage.

Now, to see if these things shoot in my 6.5 X 06. The process brings the boolit nose up to fit the bore.

Doin' The Zebra Swirl
The rainbow has no limit once you learn the basic steps of the Zebra Swirl.
Let's get started... and a one two three...

http://i552.photobucket.com/albums/jj358/Team_Termath/Snapshots/Boolits/Swirl/Dip-It-B-01.jpg
The Zebra Swirl is just one of the many outlandish gyrations that'll make your poppers twist all the way to the bullseye.

http://i552.photobucket.com/albums/jj358/Team_Termath/Snapshots/Boolits/Swirl/Dip-It-B-00.jpg
All you need is: a handful of powder coated lead bullets, assorted nail polish colors,
a water filled shot glass (or equivalent), acetone, paper towels, toothpicks, cotton swabs and tweezers.
That's it and you're good to go.

http://i552.photobucket.com/albums/jj358/Team_Termath/Snapshots/Boolits/Swirl/Dip-It-B-02.jpg
Carefully float a drop of white nail polish onto the water.

http://i552.photobucket.com/albums/jj358/Team_Termath/Snapshots/Boolits/Swirl/Dip-It-B-03.jpg
Place a drop of black on the white.

http://i552.photobucket.com/albums/jj358/Team_Termath/Snapshots/Boolits/Swirl/Dip-It-B-05.jpg
Slowly swirl the two colors together with a toothpick.

http://i552.photobucket.com/albums/jj358/Team_Termath/Snapshots/Boolits/Swirl/Dip-It-B-06.jpg
Carefully dip the bullet at a slight angle through your design.

http://i552.photobucket.com/albums/jj358/Team_Termath/Snapshots/Boolits/Swirl/Dip-It-B-07.jpg
While keeping the bullet fully submirged, clear away all the remaining floating polish with a cotton swab.

http://i552.photobucket.com/albums/jj358/Team_Termath/Snapshots/Boolits/Swirl/Dip-It-B-08.jpg
There you've got it!
You're donin' the Zebra Swirl and the Rainbow Marble Clown and whatever other funky number you come up with.

These are my 200gr PB FP RCBS bullets as loaded into the 358 MGP used the the AR. The 16 inch barrel puts them out at 2,400 fps with no leading or gas system problems. They are hard cast, water dropped, dried, shaken, placed nose down in hardware cloth racks, then toaster oven cooked, run through a .358 push sizer with case lube and shot. The load is 35 gr of 1680 with an adjustable gas block using sized and fireformed Federal 6.8 SPC brass. Groups to .5 inches at 100. This is an excellent truck gun, will take a 68 Chev right off the driveway.;)

The picture here is from my current (art-form) method, using acetone/pc/slurry and a hdw. cloth tray. The wet pills are poured into the tray and baked @ 400 for 20 min.
Next I will try the shake and bake method but I refuse to spend the time, patience, and effort to stand each bullet on a flat sheet for baking. 172592

Been a while since I had time in the shop so I played with some PC. Started with 240 Ideal 429-224s PCed in Smoke Clear (half checked, half not).

Then moved onto my newest casts from my new MP 454-200. Smoke Gloss Black, Yellow Green, Flare Red. All dry tumble with ASBBs.

Most interesting was a play around one I PCed in clear, baked 2 minutes to just melt PC, then tumbled in green and black bins followed by a full bake.

I've given up on keeping my powders straight. Now, it's wanton chaos. Just toss some and tumble. I'm getting some pretty cool colors.
My base color right now is Smoke's Carolina blue. I have had trouble with a few powders that refuse to tumble with decent results. When mixed with Smoke's carolina blue...they work PERFECT. SO, I can make the good stuff go further and get cool colors. LOL

One of those is HF red mixed with powder by the pound orange. The other is Carolina blue [smoke] and PBTP metallic purple.

My latest method has been to dry tumble with a random color, then add more bullets to the tub and another color, mixing it with the leftover from the last batch. Embrace the chaos of random colors!!!

Carolina Blue is correct...but I ran.out of the John Deere green. This is the last bit of Kawasaki green. For the record, John Deere green tumbles better. I have found nothing that coats as smooth as the Carolina Blue when tumbling.

Same observation as you. My favorite Carolina Blue. Traffic Purple is my second favorite. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170623/0649ab32140ebc92d21788e284e8ec2a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170623/6bf8af132433f70a7cb37e0c07b01dc4.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170623/1452f11154faa8e63ee8786ff9997144.jpg

I need to improve on the coverage of the PC, but overall, I'm happy with it. I did the Dry tumble with Airsoft BBs. I think I need a deeper/narrower container and maybe less bullets at a time. There were some bare spots on some bullets. But, I think they'll shoot just fine.

That's a good looking mix too...I'm sorta getting burned out on flashy colors lately like my blue and red's...thought I'd find a color to just stick with for the .45ACP practice rounds. This is the old look for the 1911's candy jar, now they'll be just the old lead color.

Im a rookie, I just started powder coating a month ago, But I am lovin' it!! I generally cast spring and fall, but I bet I'll be casting longer this year just because I am having FUN! My wife feels its not confirmed...I'm far gone.

I had "washed" a batch of bullets in mineral Spirits and think I contaminated my green powder. As it always coated rather thick, but produced beautifully coated bullets. now it coats like the metallic's... meaning it needs three coats for complete coverage. Guess I need to make a new bucket.

Any how here is a couple of my favorites!

Yellow is always muddled...that IS two coats!

A couple that I tumbeled and then bounced in another color. Some turn out cool and others ugly. Gets boring looking at the same colors all the time so throw a little here and there into the mix.

Tried mixin a couple colors... some worked well... I learned to steer clear of any Metallic...
This is 50/50 white and "Slamin' Purple". (Very deep dark color)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v465/CWLONGSHOT/Temp%20stuff/sporting%20pics/Bullets/Casting/Powder%20Coating/C3F9516C-BAEA-414D-8D52-D0C27E49EC77_zpsnten7drn.jpg

Was surprised to get GREY... So I doubled up on the purple...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v465/CWLONGSHOT/Temp%20stuff/sporting%20pics/Bullets/Casting/Powder%20Coating/F4905A4E-BDA9-41CB-B2B9-D3A9FECE189F_zpsnkxmh3yp.jpg

Got darker, SLIGHTLY darker grey.

They look allot like the Powder I got from GRMPS so I like it!

So then, I tried some RED, WHITE 50-50 and a 1/4 teaspoon of met Silver...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v465/CWLONGSHOT/Temp%20stuff/sporting%20pics/Bullets/Casting/Powder%20Coating/757D96F7-D672-4819-8106-60C5EE3CA4FD_zpspylw4zjs.jpg

I call them "ERASERS" NO, they aint just PINK...

Then I did some of the 25/20 same color... But they don't look as good so probably no more small bullets that color.

This was an attempt to get "peach"... I was close but covered like crapola... so I had the idea to re coat with Metallic copper. Copper coats pretty well, but is very thin as its based on cl;ear... It worked out pretty well.
