    3000-4000 lbs of solder

I have the oportunity to get somewhere between 3000-4000 lbs of solder from a wave soldering machine for free. I have no idea of the mix it is but I was thinking this would make good paper killin 38 special or 45 acp boolits if I mixed it 50/50 with WW.

    Any opinions?

What is the tin content? Even if it's 50/50 I'm thinking that you can cast it into pound ingots and sell it for at LEAST $3 a pound. $9,000 will buy you a whole bunch of WW, which will work just fine for paper killin as is.

Mixing any solder 50/50 with WW for shooting is a pure waste.

the wave solder is usually 60-40.
mixing 50-50 like that is a waste of tin and time.

It should be closer the 95-5, they have just about quit using 60-40 for electronics these days, the tin is a better conducter.

I'm in for 20# myself if the price is right.

I'd be interested in 25 pounds if the price is right. Possibly more, depending on price.

If you don't crank up the price. Make a little money but pass the majority of the good deal to your friends here on the board.

I'd like to buy 50 pounds if the right is acceptable.

    Solder content

Most wave solder machines used 63/37 solder. All company's had to change to lead free solder about two years ago. Europe was the first to change. They outlawed the import of anything with lead based solder. All of the world followed shortly after. Lead free solder is almost pure tin with about 2% silver and less then 1/2% copper.

Like most things in life free doen't always mean free. I'm going down next week to check it out and make sure it is what it is supposed to be. I'm told it is still in the machine so I'm sure some kind of a rodeo is going to be involved. I'll keep everyone posted.

If this works out like it should Yes I will remember the people here on the forum. I have gained a lot of knowledge here and intend to return all of the kindness I have been given.

10% 50-50 solder with WW is a great mix, 5% 95-5 would be good too.

I would be interested in some when you get it. I would have WW alloy in trade if that works for you. PM me when you know more!

Hopefully they'll let you fire up the machine and fill ingots on there.
bring what ever ingot molds you have, plus old fry pans, or what ever.

I am in for a 50 lb box (if the price is right).
    Jon

PS: The solder machine I ran 20 years ago held about 400 lbs of solder
