    triger grinding jig

this is my triger grinding jig. diamond wheel in lathe chuck. u move the compound slide
in 1/2 thou at a time. it makes the edge neutral, that is not climbing or receading.

    cheers

It doesn't get much simpler than that! How do you set the angle and keep the trigger from moving?

It appears that your compound is set parallel to the cross slide(although the angle and close up make it hard to tell). In order to obtain .0005" movement for every .001" on the compound dial(assuming you have a one for one machine), the compound would have to be set at either 26.57 degrees or 63.43 degrees, depending on how your machine is marked.

You probably already know, but in case you don't, grinding swarf is extremely hard on machine ways. It is good practice to cover the ways with a cloth or sheet of plastic before doing any type of grinding...and most certainly do not use an airhose to clean up.

Dave, the angle could be set a number of ways, some simple and others not so simple. The simplest would be to design the fixture with two appropriately placed dowel pins and a clamp over the top to keep the trigger from moving---then adjust the toolpost with a protractor. A more elaborate system would use a micrometer head and a calculator, alternatively one could set up an excel spreadsheet and just plug in the appropriate variables to obtain the required movement on the micrometer for the desired angle.
    Machinists do it with precision.

the whole point of this jig is u work the triger back and forth to so the
top of the triger is neutral to the pivot point. ever notice some trigers
when pulled are stiff and they are actualy cocking the hammer further
back before the hammer is relesaed. that is because of the angle on the trigger.
probbly that way for liability reason for the manufacter.
