Anyone loading these?
I am loading some Starline 45 Colt brass. Don't know what special would mean?
I think he is referring to the Cowboy 45 Special Brass. It has the rim of a 45 Colt brass and ythe length of a 45 Auto. I have not loaded or shot any, but you load htem wiht recioes for 45 Auto, but keeping in mind that you stay with pressure for the 45 Colt (as some 45 Auto loads can exceed that). They were created to allow for low pressure loads that could induce a greater incidence of case splits. Thought about loading some but since I do not compete in SASS, why change?
Cowboy .45 Special? Same size as .45acp, use similar loading data depending on what you want.
I’ve been reading about these for awhile and bought a couple bags of Starline brass. What I’ve read is that 45 acp seating/crimp die is used but I loaded a dummy round with my Hornady 45 Colt dies with no issue. As I shoot a lot of 38 and 44 specials from 357 and 44 magnum guns thought I would try these. Haven’t decided on a powder or charge yet but will be using a Lee 252-200-RF.
Hunt up a 45 Auto Rim seating/crimping die.
Rights, and Privileges, are not synonymous. We have the Right to Bear Arms. As soon as the Government mandates firearm registration, and permiting, then that Right becomes a Privilege, and may be taken away at our Master's discretion.
So is the difference between these and.45 auto rim the thickness of the rim?

Really not needed with normal 45 ACP loads or even +P loads. The taper crimp which most ACP seating dies apply is quite sufficient. I've shot thousands of 45 ACP loads in numerous S&W and COLT M1917s, S&W M25s and 45 ACP cylinders in Ruger and Uberti SAs. Have never had a bullet, cast or jacketed of 185 - 245 gr move forward from recoil in the cylinder. I even gave up crimping when using 45 AR cases in the M25 and M1917s. Same applies when I do shoot 45 Specials and 45 Government loads in the shorter cases in 45 Colt cylinders. The crimp just isn't needed.

I’m going to make some test loads with 231 and Unique with a 200 grain Lee 252-200-RF pc bullets and see how they go.
