A friend is interested in a Cimarron 1885 30" in .38/55 Win. but I have never heard of them with this spelling. Has anybody had any experience with their rifles and are they any good or reputable?

It's a most likely a Uberti, Cimarron is just a importer.
I currently have 2 Cimaron Sharps, and had a hi wall, sold it to a friend. All great shooters and good lookers. In my limited experience the bore will require bullets in the .380-382 diameter.
If he gets it, slugging the bore is a good idea. Some run vastly oversized and need bullets accordingly large. Shooting buddy has one that runs about .383” or so while “standard is around .379”. It shoots great with the proper size bullets.

It IS a Uberti and so are the Taylor's. Both companies are just importers with their names stamped on the rifle~!
My Uberti highwall started life as a 30-30; JES changed that to a 38-55 @ .379 bore. Great rifle, just don't shoot it enough.
