38.0 grs of imr 3031 with a 405 gr should duplicate the 55 gr black powder load.

Nice patch job, if you ruff up the plate surface before browning it will look like a casting flaw rather than a patched hole.

Take a look at Arsenal's 432-210 its what I use in my win 92 src and rem 1 1/2 rolling block. They come out of them mold at .432" for me but I size them to .428" for my rifles.

Its a spider egg sack of some kind. Mantis nest are about half the size of a golf ball and are normally found in bushes. The boxwoods in front of my house have several mantis nests every year.

Tex I like the idea, I'm thinking something like 5 grains of unique a .36 cal wonder wad as an over powder wad then some #8's or 9's with just enough room for another wonder wad to be roll crimped in place. You need to keep the velocity down or...

Another vote for 3031 and as a backup Winchester 748. Then unique for cast bullets.

You can also try pecatonica long rifles out of Illinois. There prices are pretty good and they cut a lot more patterns to choose from.

Try 10 grs of unique with no filler its an accurate load with just enough recoil to let you know it went off.

MOA, I forgot to ask how long does it take your c-n-c to make one of those 100 hole blocks?

Those blocks are nice looking Iv'e made a bunch of loading blocks from red oak 6" base plate material scraps leftover from stair railings using a forstner bit in the drill press. Using a piece of plate 6" x 11" you can get 50 holes that are large...

No need to worry about finding patches. Just find some ticking put a lube of your choice on it and cut the patches on the muzzle.

Sounds like Pietro might be on to something what is the barrel length? if its longer than 28" its round ball twist 1:66 which means its definitely a qla issue but if its a 28" it could also be a fast twist 1:28 barrel. Which will shoot a ball ok but...

For a .45 colt, I would suggest a rnfp 250 or 255 grain sized .452 with 8 grs of unique. I almost got a Burgess last summer my lgs had one on consignment cheap but I passed on it.

Agreed, plastic stocks may keep the cost down, the weight down, and take a lot of abuse but you just can't beat a pretty piece of wood. Unless something is really wrong wood stays put.

Here's an outside the box thought. What if you cut through the steel frame with an angle grinder? Say one cut top to bottom on each side then you might free up the lead or have a point to pry off the steel frame.

He used the nest material as a wad not a patch. It's a very old trick for when the original cast was out of cloth or other suitable wadding . They used hornets or wasp nest material cause it won't burn.

I didn't realize the sps stocks were set up that way but I would have done the same thing you have. About 10 years ago I had a 700 adl synthetic in .222 rem (standard barrel contour) and I floated it by putting shims made from business cards under...

Yep my bad. I could have sworn it was a single six as for the gb link they are on crack price wise. The last buckeye I saw in that condition had 795 on it for a price tag and that was late last year at a lgs it was the .38-40 / 10 mm.
