Pulling a boolit and got a BIG SURPRISE INSIDE!

I found a few 30-06 rounds i had that came from ? Two had cracked necks so I picked them out to pull the j boolits so I could cut down the brass to reform. I twisted the first one out by hand and proceeded to dump the powder into my scale pan to weigh. It took me several taps and shakes to get it all boken loose and out of the case as it was quite compressed in there. I spilled some and still had a wieght of 56.9gr over a 150gr jsp HMMMM I figured I lost 3gr I thought this a little heavy so I took a closer look at the powder to try to make out what it might be. WHOAAA WHAT THE HECK! Check out what I found. I never woulda thought it.





Theres still powder stuck to the decapping rod and it caused corrosion on the inside of the case too. I dont know how or when it got in there I didnt do it and havent been able to get ahold of my dad to see if he remembers breaking a rod ever. But i sure plan on pulling sown the rest of the cases I found in this bunch. Kinda cool and spooky to I dont pull down too many cases myself and this has got to be a freak deal at least for me.

That is freaky, I wonder what would have happened if you shot that. Probably wouldn't have been fun.

Probably wouldn't have done anything real unusual except maybe scratch your bore. Being behind the bullet, it certainly wasn't a bore obstruction.

Definitely an unusual find though.

Actually, that thing took up quite a bit of available volume. If touched off, the pressure would have been astronomically high.

I dont figure it would have done anything itself either but due to the compressed load and figure it probably was a load of imr 4895 it would have been really high pressure.

I bought a couple packs of the paper wrapped, string tied surplus 7.62x54 to shoot in my 91/30, after firing them I found a primer inside a fired case, scary stuff.

I would bet no effect at all, since it is in the powder charge instead of ahead of it. I would not be surprised if it stayed in the case at firing.

Shouldn't hurt anything. John Buhmiller commonly dropped a primer in his cases before the powder charge when he was loading elephant killers. Took a steel .45 ACP case, poured it full of lead, turned it to profile on a lathe and loaded it over 105 grains of old 4831. Talk about the ultimate "solid". Makes my shoulder hurt to even think of shooting it. The extra primer supposedly gave him better ignition with the 4831 and he killed a lot of elephants in his day./beagle

I've had a chance to buy several Buhmiller rifles over the years. Always kick myself afterwards. He was known for some pretty snorty loading procedures.
